When the first drop of the morning rain plopped on his forehead, he still didn't know that it was a dawn with many firsts in his life...
Sometime between waiting for either his Chacha or Guru to show up and getting lost in the nightly spread of the starry sky he'd dozed off and now, as he shifted on the cot, while his eyes adjusted to the light and the daze melted away, he felt a brush of the back of her hand against his cheek. It was the first time he woke up to find himself sleeping next to someone he didn't find a will to run from. Chavanni and her entourage of a fluffy pink blanket, a rag doll and a pillow in the shape of Dora's face lay next to him and he smiled, realizing she'd survived the night without being crushed to death by him.
There had been that one drop of rain that had come as an empty threat from nature, not nearly followed through and he stayed on the cot, languid and assured, without hurrying them inside. In the quiet of the morning, he absorbed the details he'd never before paid attention to: the dark spread of her lashes that fanned outwards and the stubby nails that refused grow past her fingers. Then there was the dent on the bridge of her nose from the thick gross pink glasses she wore. Most of all, it was the first time he took in the perpetual crinkle of her lips that never seem to fade even as she was in the depths of her dream bound sleep.
Oh! Hell...Why did the most beautiful things in life come in such annoying little packages?, he thought getting to his feet and deciding to put her back in her bed before those moments he'd watched her sleep strike him with any significance at all, without wanting to gain clarity that they already had.
Throwing her over his shoulders, he walked towards the room and he turned back to find the edge of her blanket mopping the trail they'd taken to reach the door; Chavanni having tied one corner of the blanket to her thumb and he couldn't help the smile that floated up to his face, seeing the small ways in which she still remained a child.
He lazily pushed on one of the double doors and his sleep dissolved away as he caught on that it was locked from the inside. Shit! He shook the lever harder and the door rattled, not relenting to the growing force of his thrust. Chavanni sniffled in the crook of his neck and he gave up and waited for a while until she settled back into the comforts of her slumber. When he was about to walk down to find a help or Guru to solve the puzzle of the closed door, the doors creaked, shrieking as the lever was pulled back on the inside and jerked open to have her leaning onto one side.
He went very still then, the image her of in bed hair and a ruffled sari permeating a defined awareness even amidst the last haze of his sleep. If that hadn't done it, her smudge of dark kohl under her half-lidded eyes had made him suck in his breath for that long moment.
"One minute..." She yawned covering her mouth. "I will be right back" She said, pushing a lock of hair that slid over her face and he watched her fingers take them back and continuing to hold them there while she turned and staggered her way to the back of the house.
He blinked and stayed where he was, thinking it was the first time he was entering the bedroom of a woman at this hour when he had nothing to do with her unkempt hair, the smear of kohl below her eyes or the loose folds of her sari. Again, there was her daughter sleeping over his shoulders and yet in light of everything inconvenient and objectionable he couldn't deny that she still appeared more agreeable than most women he'd seen in that state.
He wished he was still dreaming...or ardently hoped she'd only been a nightmare. Either ways, he reckoned he had some waking up to do.

One doubt , in whose house is she sleeping? if it is Guru's room then what is Leher doing there, or maybe Dhruv and Nanhi are sleeping on his Chacha's roof top!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ooff confusion.
