Hi everyone,

as much as I liked todays' episode, the CVs once again messed up on this diabetes thing-they did it before when arnav passed out the first time. know this post is kind of long, but appreciate it if you guys read it and comment😊
First things first, there are two types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2. Type 1 usually happens in childhood, and type 2 usually associated with older age and obesity. There are exceptions but this is the general rule.
Arnav is young and thin, this make it very unlikely he has type 2 diabetes. He just doesn't fit the picture. However, I doubt he is Type 1 diabetic because he is shown taking pills. Usually in type 1 diabetics, your body doesn't make insulin so you are required to be on insulin injections. You can't get by wtih pills. So once again, arnav doesn't fit this category.
so, point #1-cvs what kind of diabetes does arnav have?
Coming to the next point-arnav supposedly didn't take his meds today. The meds are used to lower blood sugars, therefore, not taking his meds we can assume that his blood sugar is high. In most cases, you don't pass out with high blood sugar (unless it is severely high as initial presentation in type 1 diabetes-called diabetic keto acidosis). So giving him the sugar should have not made any difference.
Also, say for example if he did become hypoglycemic-pt with long time diabetes usually have some hints that there sugar is low before they pass out-for example: they get sweaty or have shakes and have enough time to eat something sweet
At the end of this long message, if the CVs happen to read this, even if you don't run medical conditions by a doctor, I am sure there is one on the set who has diabetes and can explain them this. It is actually farily common sense.
If you wondering why I am going on about this when I could be talking about arhi moments that happened is today-it is because I am doctor (actually still in my residency now) and a big nerd and things like this bother me so I had to vent.
Did anyone else think about this-out of curosity are there any other members who are residents or medical students out there:) I am starting to feel old in this forum, I am only 25 but feel like there a lot teenagers on the forum, Back in the day when I joined, I was a youngster as well. 😊 Now I am the old person pointing out medical issues on the show😊

yeah...u r not alone...me a doc as well..n older than u...so the pain of being an oldie has passed on tome now...jokes apart...all those points came immediately to my head as well...but then i let it be...in ne case it is nothing new...all the movies in india show ridiculous hospital scenes n doctor portrayal as well...very few actually research on specific medical conditions before writing the script

I am not a doctor like you Ladies, but I know little facts about Diabetes, they screwed it up. Anyway they are hell bent on ruining the main story, this should be a piece of cake for them to ruin.

since he takes pills yeah i'm assuming he's type 2he because i know some who are not due to obesity and some who are fairly young too though its not a norm so i wasn't surprised with arnav... but the thing is... diabetes is a very complicated thing so i try to ignore it.. i mean you want to show it as realistic as possible but we cant start injecting barun to get "med facts straight" in the show.. right!

Yes! Oh my goodness I'm so glad I'm not the only one who noticed. I'm 17 so am one of the teenagers you spoke of- 25 isn't old at all! I'm going to be studying Medicine at Uni from October of this year and so the insulin thing really bugged me...

I always assumed Arnav was a Type 1 diabetic because we've now seen him as a kid, a teenager and an adult and he's never been chubby- he jogs everyday and seems to eat pretty healthy... there's just no logical way for him to be a Type 2.

It's fine they choose not to show him injecting himself but seriously- it irked me when there was the whole mix-up of his and Mamiji's medicine since I was like "But... why would he be taking medicine in the first place? You can't INGEST insulin... Your body would just digest it, you numbskulls. IT HAS TO BE INJECTED."

And then if what he actually takes is a "sugar tablet" as somebody said today, then why the hell would they have made such a massive hoo-hah when Mami nearly took it? She'd have been worse off swallowing a Tic Tac. -_-

I know they're allowed some creative licence and this kind of stuff only bothers a very select group of people... but it feels good to share the annoyance around. :')

Feel I should clarify that I really did like the episode. 😆 I'm not criticising it- just the medical knowledge- or rather, lack of it- if I know this as an A2 student, there should be at least ONE PERSON in the cast or crew or CVs who picked up on it too- I mean fgs, if you're going to give one of your leads such a frequently referenced illness, you should at least get your facts sorted about it.

Hey, I have mostly been a silent member but your topic urged me to reply : ). I am also a medical student and the whole diabetes fainting incident did annoy me a little. You do have a point but I guess the creatives take liberty in presenting the medical facts the way they want to. The amount of manhandling that Khushi is subjected to, I am surprised she doesn't have more bruises. For today's episode, if Arnav hadn't fainted then how could they show Khushi taking care of him :P. I am just blabbering now but mostly I watch the show to take my mind off the books so want to keep it as a stress buster.

yeah ..i am a doctor..an obgyn...i was really irritated yesterday when when they were talking of giving arnav his meds(which actually bring down the sugar levels) when he is hypoglycemic!!!there was juice infront of him couldnt he drink it!!!

its actually common knowledge that when a diabetic feels giddy they need to take sugar asap...the cvs dont need any medical degree for that!!!

one more thing i find funny in serials is the way they show docs making house visits ..these days no doctor does that particularly specialists..unless they r close friends

I'm not a doc, but I live with diabetics.

I have had them go into hypoglycemia, but they had time to pop in a chocolate. Also, the hypoglycemia sets in if you have meds and then don't eat, not when you forget your meds. My diabetic MIL has gone into shock a few times cos she forgets to eat after she's taken the med---most meds for her are recommended just before meals.

OK, so I think the CV's are well not informed about diabetes also. While I am not an MD I am married to one(a diabetic) and our family is full of MDs. Every time some yells at him about eating "sugar" I get mad. You are not alone. Sadly my teenage years are long gone, I refuse to feel "old".

I'm not a doc yet but wish to be in a couple of years. And youre not alone...Ive thought about his diabetic conditions many times.A lot of the things shown about his condition are contradicting to one another. Plus I also dont like the fact that both times hes been shown to pass out bcuz of low sugar he recovers instantly...yes sugar does come into effect very quickly but not as quickly as they show it. But eh, whatever...its an indian soap 😕
