2005 superhit Tamil film Chandramukhi is getting a Hindi remake and top bollywood stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Kajol and Ajay Devgan will act in it. Superstar Amitabh Bachchan will enact the role of the psychiatrist which was played by Tamil superstar Rajnikant in Tamil version. Off-screen pair Ajay Devgan and Kajol will play husband-wife in the film.
The story of the film goes like this:
An American-returned psychiatrist is called by his friend to his house to solve a problem. Some strange happenings have been going in his house since he and his wife bought the palatial palace. The palace is said to be haunted and the spirit of a dancer called Chandramukhi hovers in it. (One and a half century ago the dancer had been forcibly brought from Andhra by a King, whose advances she spurns. When the king realised that Chandramukhi loved a fellow dancer, in frustration he beheaded him and later burnt Chandramukhi alive in the palace.) It comes to light the wife was possessed by the spirit and she was behaving like Chandramukhi. The psychiatrist friend sets about treating her.
Director of the film P. Vasu reveled that shooting will start next year. By that time Big B will also be back in action. P. Vas would be directing for Sivaji Films - the producers of Chandramukhi. It is said the producers' first choice for the leading lady was Ash but since she is too busy to give dates, Kajol got the nod for the film.
