Megans/Sarah Payne Law

Those of you who live in USA and UK will know who Megan Nicole Kanka or Sarah Payne is.Those of you who dont know,i'll just briefly explain who they are.

Megan Nicole Kanka was a 7 year old who lived in New jersey.On July 29, 1994 she was raped and murdered by a convicted sex offender.Unknown to the Kankas, a convicted sex offender lived across the street. The murderer had already served six years in prison for aggravated assault and attempted sexual assault on another child.The result of this tragedy was a nationwide law. A law that would give parents what they desperately wanted: the right to know. A law that would require notification when a convicted sex offender moves into a neighborhood. A law to protect our children.Within an unprecedented eighty-nine days, the New Jersey State Legislature passed Megan's Law.

The same happened to Sarah Payne,an 8 year old girl who was abducted on the 1st July 2000 in the UK.Her mother has campaigned non-stop for the UK government to pass the same law as the Megans law which will enable parents to know if there are any sex offenders in the area where they live.The law is not enforced yet.

There are mixed views on Megan/Sarahs law.Of course every parents would want to know where sex offenders live.Alot of people think the goverment shouldnt enforce such a law as it could cause alot of problems.Sex offenders will be targeted.

what do you think?Do you think that every parent should have a right to know if there are any sex offenders in the area?Should sex offenders right to live peacefully be protected?

Yes every parent has the right to know if there is a sex offender in the area and protect their child. A pedophile is a deranged person who will never stop having desires for young children , no amount of jail sentence can change this.

It is important for every parent to know who they are and protect their kids.

I hope India too finds a way to do this. Hopefully U.K will too. I am glad U.S does.

Right of innocent people to live safely should trump rights of convicted sex offenders. The rights of criminals and blaming of victims is far left non sense.
I believe that sex offenders should have the word 'sex offender' tattoed on foreheads soeveryone knows. Unfortunately that falls under cruel and unsual!

I agree.....and i hate when some politics try to defend saying that by registry we are invading their privacy 😡...They lost the right of privacy the minute they did this shame ful act.

I would like to know if sex offender is living in my neighbourhood. First of all why are sex offenders get parole? I know USA prisons are over crowded and they need to move people out...but come on...a sex offender? If a sex offender has been in jail...i would think..not seeing opposite sex would make things worse for them, so once they are out..most likely they will try to do the act again.

I so agree with you. I think their certain parts should be chopped off....gosh i am thinking so barbaric..but hey what they do do small young girls is even worse. All the sex offenders should be left together on an unknown 1 mile long Island with chopped off parts. That's the perfect punishment for them...

i agree that we should know if there are sex offenders living around us, but in the U.S you can be deemed a sex offender if you are 18 years olf and have a 17 year old girlfriend. (this happened to one of my friends, her parents didnt want my friend to date him so they went to court against him and made him a sex offender), so things like this can ruin your life. It is a touchy issue so i'm not sure where i stand. i guess there should be degrees of types of sex offenders, the most dangerous ones who have commited horrible crimes against innocent children and ones like my friends bf.
