MIRA TO RELEASE 'THE NAMESAKE' IN NOV

Mira Nair's 'The Namesake' based on Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jhumpa Lahiri's widely acclaimed novel 'The Namesake', has already reached the post-production stage and will hit theaters in November this year. The movie looks like a Hollywood one as it is estimated at $9.6 million. The movie is being shot in the US and Kolkata. Nair has inspired Siddharth Roy Kapoor of UTV who believes in Mira Nair's expertise and brilliant scripting. "She understands the Indian and American psyche equally well. The prospect was good and it was a rare and fabulous opportunity of being associated with a filmmaker like her," he adds.

The movie's story, according to him, revolves around an Indian family who shifts from Kolkata to New York. With the influence of Western culture over Indian ethics, their son suffers the most as he has been brought up in New York, while his roots are Indian. He has to deal with both the worlds - one that he belonged to and the other one that he has been brought up in. Sooni Taraporewala, who has written the script, is all praise for its lead cast comprising Tabu and Irrfan Khan. The latter is being compared to Johnny Depp, a Hollywood star. Incidentally, the film will be released in four languages: Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and English. Mira and the entire cast and crew will work hard to promote the movie all over India, it is stated.
