I got changed into some new clothes. I was going to go look for a job, so I had to wear smart clothes for first impressions. I had opened my wardrobe door, expecting it to be empty; however it was filled with loads of clothes for girls. They seemed my size, so I pulled out a sky blue salwar kameez set. I looked fine on me, and all I had to do was my hair and make-up.

I decided to do my hair half up and half down. Putting in my last grip into my hair, I decided to do simple make up. I applied eye liner pencil, and some eye liner, and also applied some clear lip gloss. Taking a quick look in the mirror, making sure I looked OK, I walked out of the room. Grabbing the keys along the way and a small side bag, I walked out of the front door, locking it.

I was walking straight towards the elevator, thinking about where I could try to look for a job, when I walked into Uday.

"Hey Manyata," he said casually. God, I should be looking here I go. I nearly tripped over his shoe but he caught me, and I tried to stand up.

"Oh hi, I'm so sorry!" I replied quickly. Sometimes I'm so stupid. I looked around him and noticed Jay wasn't there. What a relief, she scares me.

"Don't worry, so where you heading?" He asked me. The elevator door had opened and we both went in.

"I'm going into town to look for a job," I replied, quickly selecting the G button, also known as the ground button. He seemed to be considering something, I felt embarrassed and awkward so I just looked at my feet. Oh, I'm so forgetful. I've forgotten to clip my toenails, what a first impression I will make!

Just as the elevator opened, Uday started speaking again. "I could get you a job where I work at," he told me, as we both walked out of the elevator. I just looked at him. Is he mad? How could I work with him? I need to do things myself.

"No it's OK, I can find a job by myself," I told him, he seemed nice and all, but it would just be too awkward.

"Look Manyata, I can easily get you a job, look at it as a welcoming present from me," he looked at me. I didn't know what to say. He was really kind and sweet.

"Okay then," I whispered in defeat. I didn't like it, but he was just trying to be nice.

"That's good I'll take you there," I just looked at him again, shocked. He grinned, and opened the building's front door and waited for me to go past. I quickly walked, thinking why he's doing this.

"You know you don't have to actually do this," I told him. He didn't say anything and walked up to a black Volkswagen Passat. It was really glossy, and looked brand new. He got his keys out and unlocked the car, opening the passenger door. I just stood there shocked. "Are you going to get in or will I have to push you in?" He asked me laughing.

I shook my head and went into the car. He closed the door and went into the drivers seat. I took a second to smell the car, it smelt like flowers. "Is this actually your car?" I asked him. He looked at me, he looked somewhat offended. Then he started smiling, what is it with him? He keeps smiling, it's kinda annoying.

"Yes, this is my car, why do you ask?" He asked me. Ever since I was 16, I've always admired this type of car. You can't get this model in India, I've only seem it abroad when they show places like England.

He started the engine and was driving through the streets. Streets I didn't know yet. "No it's just, I really like this car ever since I was 16. You can't get this car here in India," I told him. I wonder how he got this car here anyway, you'd have to be really rich to get cars like this here.

"Yeah about that," he laughed, "My father got this car exported for me on my 20^th birthday. It's nothing really..." he continued.

"Nothing really? I would die to get a car like this. You are really lucky to have such a nice dad. I didn't get anything but 2 rupees for my 20^th birthday from my father," I protested against him. My father would never do anything like that, we were never that rich.

"Really? 2 rupees only?"

"Ah-huh"

"Wow, what a loving father you have!" I looked at him, giving him the evils. "Okay, okay, I was only just joking. Chill yaar," He told me still laughing.

"Yeah, why don't you chill your beans yaar?" We must have been here because Uday had turned his engine off. Just out of the car, there was a shop named "Chicken Hut". "So you work here?" I asked him as I opened the door and got out.

"Yeah, I do," he said, shuffling his black hair. He walked into the shop and greeted some people, I just followed him smiling at the people he had been talking to.

"Uday, where do I go to apply for the job," I asked him.

"To the manager of the shop, of course," he told me, grinning. I wonder why he was grinning, there wasn't anything funny there.

"Urmm... and where can I find the manager?" I asked him. I kind of regretted saying that because he just smiled again.

"Here, right in front of you," he told me. I was shocked again, what else is he? He's like extremely rich and he's a store manager!

"Your joking right?" I asked him, but I had a feeling he was telling me the truth.

"No, why would I be joking?" he had a serious face now, "And you're going to get the job definitely". Wow, that was quite easy, I mean I thought it would take me forever to find a job.

"Well where do I start?" I asked him. This was going to be a very long day, I could already tell.

"Lets start off with uniform," he told me.

I had put on my uniform and now was working in the back of the store. Uday had taught me a lot, and I think now I'm getting the hand of things. There was a shift change, but I insisted of carrying on. Much of the other people had gone home and other people had come in to take over.

I was just frying some chips when someone had tapped me on the shoulder. I thought it would be Uday again telling me that my shifts over, so I ignored it. But the person had turned me around, making me face him. It was Aakash, what was he doing here?

"Aakash?!" I screamed. Suddenly Uday came in, he looked confused. I quickly hugged Aakash and smiled at him.

"Hello Manyata, nice to see you working here too," he told me.

"Wait you work here too?" I asked him.

"Yes, I do," he told me, "how have you been settling in, in your new home?" he continued.

"I'm doing fine thank you," I replied happily. I seem glad because around Aakash I felt safe. He was the one who had saved me in that first place. Uday came and interrupted us.

"-You guys have to be working here, not have a long nice chat," He told us sharply. I guess he was right, this was a job, we weren't at home.

"Sorry Uday," Aakash and me said in unison.
