Yaay, at least some1 got the clues I tried to drop in. Can't wait to hear what you guys think of chapter 4 soon. Just need to put in the finishing touches b4 I post it.

Chapter 4

I must have been asleep for some while. When I woke up, it was already dark outside but Aakash was nowhere to be found.

I walked into the kitchen realising that I was hungry, then I found a note placed on the kitchen worktops. It read:

"Dear Monia,

Sorry for leaving you alone, but I had to go out to meet someone. The apartment that you're in right now is now your new home. Please don't deny it, it's a gift from me to you. I've left you some money so that you could buy yourself some food.

I suggest that you should try and look for a job so you will have enough money for yourself. I hope we will be able to meet soon.

I found the money he had given me, and slipped them into my jacket pocket. So this is now my new home. I wonder why he would do that for a complete stranger. He is just too kind. Even my father wouldn't allow me to live myself in an apartment. I knew he was right about the job, I have to pay the rent, I couldn't let Aakash pay for them, and he's already done so much for me.

I better start tidying it, I thought to myself. Maybe I should look into all the rooms now, I mean it's my place now, it won't hurt to see.

I walked out from the kitchen and walked straight to the room opposite. It was a pretty big bedroom, with a king-sized bed. The walls were the colour of rich maroon and cream. Near the bed were some wardrobes in the colour of dark brown.

I carefully closed the door to the room, and headed towards another door. The room was quite small, and there was a single-sized bed. The wall colour to this room was hot pink, and I knew that this was the perfect room for me. The wardrobes were glossy and white, and the whole room looked modern and girly.

I knew that there was one more room that I hadn't seem, so I closed the door to what is now my new room. I walked up to the last door, and opened it very carefully. It looked like an office; the walls were dark blue, with cream carpets. But I noticed something quite strange; there was a red stain on the cream carpet...

**Flashback**

Mother told my father that she was going to go out with her best friend. She told us she was going to the shopping mall and that she would be back by 6pm. But it was now 7pm and she hadn't come back home yet. Father was starting to get worried. We had rang her several times, but she just wouldn't pick up.

It must have been about 1 in the night when she came back. She looked so panicked, and so guilty. My father got really angry at her, but I didn't understand why. I mean at least she's safe now.

Mother had gone to get herself a drink, but father got angry and dragged her into the lounge. The red cranberry juice was dripped all along the way, leaving a dark stain in our cream carpets.

That night was so scary. They were shouting, screaming all night. I was hiding in my bed from them, not knowing what will happen.

I woke up the next morning, finding mother sleeping in her room, and father sleeping on the couch. Without making a sound, I quickly went outside, and I run to school.

**Present**

I quickly closed the door, and wiped my tears that had automatically fallen. I walked up to the kitchen. My stomach had rumbled, so I figured out I could cook myself something little to eat. I searched through the kitchen looking for ingredients and things I will need to help me cook.

I had gathered up rice, curry powders, chicken, pans, spoons but I was missing cooking salt. Where was I going to get salt from now? All the shops have probably already closed; it's about 10pm now. Maybe, I could ask the neighbours. That way I could meet them too, and get to know then a bit more, I mean I'm going to be staying here for some time.

I mentally prepared a speech in my head as I picked up the door keys and closed the front door behind me. I looked to the right, 105. To my left were 107, so I guess my apartment is 106. I decided to go to 105. I knocked on the door; I could faintly hear some talking from the apartment.

Suddenly the talking had stopped, and I heard some footsteps coming towards the door. The door opened, revealing a man. He looked young, about 5ft9; he had black hair and brown eyes. He was probably 21. "Hello," he said. Behind him came a girl wearing a pink dress, hair was down and straightened. Maybe they were in the middle of something; the girl gave me the evils and looked shocked, whilst the guy seemed welcoming and nicer.

"Hi, I moved in here today and I've run out of salt. I was wondering if you could lend me some," I choked out. I felt unwanted with that girl staring at me, giving me the evils.

"Welcome to the apartment, and please do come in." he said politely. "I'm Udayveer, but you can call me Uday, and you are?" he asked me.

I knew I had to change my name to keep myself safe, to start a whole new life. So I decided to call myself Manyata. Manyata Patel. "I'm Manyata," I replied to him, following him inside. The apartment was really modern. Most of the walls were painted cream, and there were beautiful objects nicely decorated. The other girl just stared at me and followed along.

"Well Manyata, why don't we have a nice chat here, while my Uday goes and gets you some salt," She spat out adding a little what was meant to be a sweet smile to Uday. I was starting to hate her, we had just met and she's already being rude to me.

"Sure, that's fine with me," I replied to her trying to be polite. Uday smiled and walked into what looked like the kitchen.

"So Manyata, I'm Jaynandini," she told me looking bored.

"Nice to meet you Jaynandini,"

"Oh don't call me that, call me Jay,"

"Umm... OK Jay. So do you live here with Uday?" I asked her.

"Sometimes, I mean no, my apartments 107," She replied. Ah, what a neighbour I have. "Don't ever come here again or..." she muttered but got interrupted by Uday.

"-here, I've got your salt," he told me, handing a whole packet of cooking salt.

"Thank you, I'd better be going now," I told him, looking towards the front door.

"Manyata, will you like to stay for dinner?" he asked me. I would have but this Jay person was starting to creep me.

"Sorry, I really have to go now," I told him, heading towards the door. He followed me up to the door and opened it for me.

"Well do come by whenever you like, glad to meet you," he told me.

"Nice to meet you too, see you around Jay," I said. With that I quickly walked out of the door. I unlocked my front door, went in and headed straight towards the kitchen.
