I think it's more to do with the way Gopi reacts when Aham puts his hand on her unexpectedly, she looks at the hand like it's an alien creeper...😛 So he looked around and thought better of it, as it will show outsiders that he and Gopi are not that close for her to accept him touching her with just a smile and normal conversation, she will look at his hand or freeze and close her eyes or something and all the guests will be speculating about their relationship.

That's why he stopped himself in the hospital track it was essential and necessary for him to lift her to the ambulance, on the stretcher going into the hospital to make sure she stays awake, to carry her to the wheelchair and walking with her all essential and Gopi would not make any issue of it, but letting her know he is there he can do with speaking without her freaking out if he touches her.
