😲 Is having kids PRACTICAL anymore in today's day and age? The cost of raising one is very expensive and some couples are just not having them anymore. But, if you don't have kids, doesn't it alienate your parents? Sure, they want to become grandparents. But, everyone should be allowed to do what is best for them.

Well if everyone thought like you ...the human race would be extinct in the next 100 years... ...which probably is a good idea...considering the amount of damage the humans have already done to our planet...i am all for animals running this planet...

Unless one does not trust the partner one should have at least one kid.
Beauty of life can thus be better understood.

Life is designed to move forward. Life is not designed to get stuck. This was my argument against homosexuality and this is my argument in this case as well.
This, like homosexuality, is deviation from the normal. I don't think affordability is something that people think of when it comes to having kids. Therefore we should not give this factor undue importance. Maybe in extreme cases it makes sense but lets not present this as an important factor.
Edited the comedy part lol.

I don't think having kids is always a question of practical or not. It depends on whether people want to start a family and commit to raising a child. For many people the experience of having a family outweighs any costs or difficulties associated with it. So children and families are not something that we will see die out in society.

That being said, raising a child is expensive and difficult. In my opinion it merely makes family planning even more important these days. You can't just recklessly pop out babies because you want children. You have to put thought and effort into settling yourself, having a steady job and reasonable income so you can give children a happy, healthy life. I don't think it is right to have kids until you are emotionally and financially ready to make that commitment to be responsible for another life. So in that sense it can be impractical to have children. Many people know that and wait till much later in life and have fewer kids. Then there are people like Octomom and Duggars who – even God doesn't know what they are thinking.

In my opinion it is still practical to have kids in today's day and age. It's only a matter of time when is couple is ready mentally, physically and monetarily to have one. In today's working families it has to be a well-thought out plan to have kids, or you should have a family support structure to share the burden of raising a child. Of course there are day-cares centres but they have their limitations - time and money are the constraints here. One has to weigh all the options carefully before they decide to procreate. I think that todays nuclear family structure limits the number of kids a couple may have, but having said that having a kid is the most beautiful experience of life and I am very sure that the joys of having one predominates the negatives for sure..

Unfortunately most people realize that raising kids is difficult and expensive only after they have already become parents 😛

I think it depends on individual's idea of parenthood and responsibilities associated with it.

Nothing impractical about having kids.

Expense is part of raising kids. Just like any other thing, you can choose how much to spend per your ability and number of kids.

Assuming we are talking about average folks who can afford to have kids and not any special cases, it makes total sense to have kids.

If not for kids, marriages do not hold any meaning.

Maybe (because I do not have any experience). That is not the point, though. Point is that marriage (a legal commitment) is more prone to create a stable family culture across the world. Family involves kids.

If not for kids, I can have n-number of live-in relationships(parallel or serial)... have multiple kids across cities or even countries. I guess you get the idea why I am saying that marriage is precursor to having kids.
