Indian sports need a big fillip. We spend crores on cricket and yet see where we stand right now. Had that same money been used wisely on Olympics sports, we would have at least won some medals. The biggest problem is that we don't have a sporting culture. Parents don't want their kids to play for other sports as they not sure of success. 'Marks for sport' is a necessary requirement. Also all state government should ensure that there are enough grounds where kids can play as rampant commercialization has squeezed open spaces. Kids also need to be taught the importance of fitness. Today, most kids gorge on non healthy food and just sit on the computer.

This is happening in Guyana too and it is something which we need to get parents to buy in to at the parent teachers level in schools. Once we get parents on board and get some famous cricketers and famous people from other sports to be role models in the schools, it should see some progress.

Sports in general is not getting the attention of parents, they tend to let that fall on the wayside and only push for the academic. they do not see their children as being involved in both and can have a future in both or either one. one can support the other or they can go further in academia or either go further in sports, whichever one they do well in.
