INDIA! A country of vibrant colors, exotic places, and amazing people! We have so much to offer in our country that people from outside our country become so fascinated with the country. A lot of us have been born and raised in places other than India, but we remember our roots and where we hail from. Others have been fortunate enough to spend most or even all of their life in India. Whether we live inside India or far away from India, we all have so many memories and attachments to that country.

Today, January 26th India celebrates its 63rd Republic Day. Many of you may be wondering WHAT Republic Day is all about?!

Well on January 26th 1950, India became a democratic republic. After we gained our independence in 1947 from the British, a British officer was told to function as the governor general, until Dr. Rajendra Prasad became the last Governor General of India, and later became the First President of Independent India.
Around November-December of 1949 the constitution was drafted and ready to be carried out, but the makers of the constitution did not put it into action immediately. Only certain necessary laws were enforced. The primary reason for this was because they wanted India to become republic dominion on January 26th, a date that held much significance in regards to the Indian Freedom Struggle. The constitution was enforced on January 26th 1950.
NOW, many of you may be wondering what IS the difference between Republic Day and Independence day! On January 26th 1950, the constitution was finally put into action and India became a Democratic Republic. On August 15th, 1947 India gained its independence from the British rule. On that day, at midnight India became an independent country with its own Prime Minister with furling of tiranga at the Red Fort and when Pandit Nehru took oath to the office.

India as evolved so much from that time till now. India has developed and grown into such a beautiful and wonderful country. So many of us have been attached to the country for various reasons. Here is what our celebrities have to say on this beautiful country.

We here at India Forums want to wish you all a very happy 63rd Republic Day.

The Crazy Creatives have complied a list of questions for you to answer! Have fun.

What do you think about India as a country?

What do you enjoy most about living in India or about India if you're not living in India?

Has India progressed as a country from back then till now?

What's your most favorite vacation spot in India?

62 years after India became a republic, do you think India is on the verge of becoming one of the developed countries?

India is awakening, but the real kind of awakening the country needs, is far away. Do you think so? If yes, what kind of spirit do you wish to see among the Indian citizens?

Today, even the television industry has started contributing in trying to change the mentality of the citizens of India. Shows on old customs, shows based on nationalism are increasing rapidly. Do you feel such shows contribute to help India achieve the goals her leaders had seen, in 1947?

Happy Republic day Fellow Indians. Proud to be an Indian 😃
Lovely post CC's. It's always good to re-read India's history.

Will answer the questions at Night. 😳

What do you think about India as a country?
As a country, it needs lots of changes. Changes that still hold the basic building of the religion. Just like our body grows with age but atoms are always the basic building block. The same way, few things should be bound to change but the culture, tradition, value's beliefs should stay the same. I have stayed in India my first 12 years and in that time, I was a child who didn't understand much about my country. Now that I do, I sometimes wish to join the military! Which is completely ironic considering that I am very sensible to any thing. If I got a chance to go back to India, I might have considered it. Living in US, I feel that I don't want to take military lessons here as I would like to study and work for my country. Nothing is wrong here, but India is just different. Working for one own's country is different. I wouldn't be able to join but I do hope to become something that will work in favor of India. (I don't know why I said all this... 😳)

What do you enjoy most about living in India or about India if you're not living in India?
The unity between family members is one thing I enjoy the most. That isn't the case with all the family but in our family, as long as I care, I have amazing aunts and brothers on my mother's side and we all used to have the best of our time before we moved to US. Now, we still talk to them, but it's not the same as living near them and seeing them everyday. I can connect this with the show Parvarish... Right now, we don't live in India and that has made me realize how much I miss it. All the smallest of things I never imagined I would miss. The bonds, places, parks, temple that I would visit before going to school or coming back from school, the parties, sleepovers, and what not!

Has India progressed as a country from back then till now?
Surely, it has. I read about Indian history all the time. It's clear that it has and is, as always, in the process of improving.

What's your most favorite vacation spot in India?
There are many natural places that I like to visit. But all time favorite has to be Mt. Abu. That place is just mystical to me as I've been visiting the place as long as I can remember. Most probably since my birth... But I do remember from the age of 4 till just a few months ago! That is the best, but I will be up for any mountainous region. The view is just breathtaking.

62 years after India became a republic, do you think India is on the verge of becoming one of the developed countries?
It is. It has what it takes. I would have already been if not for the corruption and fights amongst religions. Just too many things that need to change. There are few + points while a few - points. Corruption continues to take it low but just like in Ramayan, Good will overcome the evil sooner or later. I stand hard to believing on that.

India is awakening, but the real kind of awakening the country needs, is far away. Do you think so? If yes, what kind of spirit do you wish to see among the Indian citizens?
Yes, I do agree. Some leader like Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru needs to rise again. The spirit of unity and the strength for all the religions to stand together is needed.

Today, even the television industry has started contributing in trying to change the mentality of the citizens of India. Shows on old customs, shows based on nationalism are increasing rapidly. Do you feel such shows contribute to help India achieve the goals her leaders had seen, in 1947?

I do think it helps. I myself watch few of the shows in this category and the producers and cast really are giving their best effort in passing the message on to everyone. If a 15 year old girl can feel the message rising in her heart, then why shouldn't everyone else who watch it! I would just says 'Hat's off to such shows!'

Pardon my philosophical talks... You will never find me talk seriously.. Unless ofcourse it's about India and it's history. A soft topic for me. The reason why is unknown to me yet...

Thank you Rani for the post and once again, Happy Republic Day friends.
