what is it with asians giving donations to their own country rather than any other poor country such as Africa?of course theres nothing wrong with that, why would you donate to charity in a foreign country when your own country needs your support. But what if another country is suffering from a terrible natural crisis, should you still turn your back to that and give donations to your 'own' country.

i wasnt really sure if i should post this topic.i thought for ages before deciding that i wanted to know what people view was on this.

i remember during pakistans eathquake,i wanted to send donations to Pakistan, a friend said to me"why are you sending money to pakistan for,why dont you send it to Bangladesh.Bangladesh is your own country, why send it to a foreign county"i was so shocked and angry that someone could even think like that😔

surely at such a terrible time, people shouldnt think like.

anyway please send your view,i would be really interested to know

Interesting debate. I too greatly support giving donations to my own country. When India needs you just as much as Africa. Why not support India, my motherland.

BUT..........in the time of crisis i will help any country that needs immediate help. For example i gave donations to Katrina. (And now we hear in the news all those funds were used for po*n movie rentals,Holidays, and breast impants etc 🤢 )

So we ought to be human first in certain situation before being an Indian or a Bangladeshi or an American.

I agree with you. There are some exception (people) but, I have seen lot of people sending money to Katrina, Tsunami etc. eventhough it's not their country.

I would usually support my own country and send money to India rather than any other country. Why? 'coz there are many people in my country that need money too. So it's like before helping neighbour's family if my family is suffering I would help them first. I don't think there is anything wrong in that. I know country like Africa needs help too, but I also know lot of poor in India also need clothes and shelter. It's just human nature to be little selfish and help their family first.

However, during natural disaster it is more important to send aid to affected area no matter if it's not your country. When you have fix budget to send money to needy in your country, I would cut that for couple months and help the one that has been affected by natural dissaster.

I guess it's hard for you to have same emotions for foreign land. It's sad, but people tend to have this behavior...as Sowmyaa mentioned, why not help your family first?
I agree if there is a natural disaster, one should help the one in need. I believe humans are good in general....they do help others in need. That comment that someone made to you-- shows his/her ignorance. It's the same way... if a church in my neighborhood needs money, I often donate it. It's for a good cause. I don't think just because I am Sikh, I shouldn't help them. When Pakistan went through that earthquake, I know many of my Indian friends sent money there. Not every one thinks in selfish way...

SIGHHHHHHHHHHHH....If all my father's money belonged to me, I would have donated most of it to charity and the needy(be it in India or in a foreign land)...but i am a pauper, and I depend of my parents for my own living 😭 ...and thus I cant donate anything from my pocket...Cant wait for the day I start earning and help out all the poor and needy people..All that I can do now is study hard so that I get a good degree, and thus a good job...I am not into modelling or films or sports, the three MAIN realms where one can make millions in the teenage itself 😭 ...so I have to wait to complete my studies, and then get a job and earn my own money.......

But its wonderful to see celebrities like Angelina Jolie making a world of difference by contributing to the African countriesšŸ‘..These celebrities can do much more than us normal people

The fact that you want to donate money to charity even though you arent working is itself the same as donating to charity. There are many people who are earning so much but still dont give a penny to a charity. I totally agree that celebrities are doing a great job!!
