Its never easy to find reasons in love....Love is perhaps the most irrational and inexplicable thing in the world...But nevertheless, been wondering for a few days now...Why exactly does Bani love Jai???...Why has she fallen hook-line and sinker for him so unconditionally and irrevoceably...
What is most ironical about the whole situation is that Bani never even remotely harboured any romantic feelings about Jai before marriage when she actually got to see his generous, benevolent and kindly side...It made sense if she had developed a crush on the person who bailed her out in her toughest phase....gave her shelter, support and respect!...
In contrast, after marriage, the Jai which she has encountered has been unreasonable, ruthless and irrational...She has seen him fly into impulsive rages, throw unjust accusations at her and display every degree of insensitivity he can...Jai has made Bani feel unwanted....(even now, he is unable to show that he needs her)...and hardly ever has he held forth any degree of emotional support towards her...
But despite all this...Despite the distance and the bitterness and the lows in their mutual relationship, it is NOW that she has fallen in love with Jai....Why???....Is it because marriage is too sacred an institution for her to trifle with???....Is is merely the forced association that has got her to think of Jai in a different light???...Is it just the natural fondness one develops for a person one is living with???...or is it something more????...
I think association has probably played a role in their relationship in the sense that both of them got to see a side of each other which they were unaware of...I think living with Jai, it was Bani who got to see Jai's emotional hurt and vulnerability after the Pia episode more than anyone else...This was perhaps why she has also been more forgiving towards him than others...Rano, Aditya, even Dadi have accused Jai of being unjustly harsh towards Bani...But Bani herself has displayed much more mature understanding of his attitude, probably because she felt a deep-rooted empathy for him...She has seen him broken and devastated, tired and bitter...And with her kind heart, it is no wonder that she felt drawn towards him...
I think it is also association that has led her to relate more closely to him in terms of the persons they are...at a certain level, both of them are lonely individuals who are looking for emotional support but unable to articulate this to the world...So there is a sub-conscious bond at a deeper level...
But more than association and empathy, I think it is also a deep-rooted trust and faith in Jai that has made Bani's feelings regard for him so significant...Despite everything, Bani has never lost sight of the fact that ultimately Jai is a just, fair man of immense integrity..someone who would be willing to listen to reason in time....someone who is sensitive and caring despite his external behaviour...I think it is this enduring trust which pre-dates their marriage which forms the basis of their relationship....
Surprisingly enuf, I would rate Jai's charms and his (infrequent) attentions towards Bani last in the list....Yeah, we all agree that Jai is irresistible esp when he's in his softer avatarđłđł...But funnily enuf, his little gestures seem to take Bani more by surprise than anything...She is too unassuming to feel flattered and in any case considers Jai too unpredictable to take him seriously when he's being soft with her!!!...
To round off this loooong post, just a thought...I've never found it curious that Jai should fall for Bani....on the contrary it seems unnatural he's been able to resist himself so long....But about BAni and Jai, it seemed more unreasonable....But then, women love to love errant, flawed men....Its their habit and men's good luck!!!!đłđł
