PART 3536. The Reception
Her eyes repeatedly strayed towards him in bewilderment in the hour that followed. But they never had a moment alone. When the hot drinks were served before the food and most of his business associates went to enjoy the refreshments, Maan took her hand to lead her to the dance floor.
"Why did you do that, Maan?"
"Why did I make you the co-owner?" He cupped her face within his hands and held her eyes as he continued, "When I trust you with my life, what is business? You are more important to me than all these put together!" He pressed his lips to her forehead in open affection. Then bowed to acknowledge the applause and the whistles.
He chuckled at her blush as he asked, "So how are we going to dance, your style or mine?" then decided in a moment.
"Mine I guess, since we have to entertain our audience!"
He signaled the band for the song "The band would like to present the first song for the evening, which is a dedication from the groom to his beautiful bride"

It was the resounding applause at the end of the dance that brought her back to awareness. After the dinner, Rudr approached Sameera, knowing she would be leaving the party without delay. He just needed a few minutes alone with her.
"Miss Kashyap would you mind holding this for me while I take a stroll in the garden?" he asked holding out his hand.
Sam laughed, but took his hand, "My god, Rudr! You are ingenious!"
"Thank you my lady, I aim to please."
As they walked towards the garden he tucked her hand in the crook of his elbow and anchored it there with his hand. She saw Maan leaning in to listen to something that Geet was saying, a smle on his face as her tucked away an errand hair behind Geet's ears. She smiled at his obvious happiness. She thought back to the days they had spent time together. She had never seen him so happy, so full of life..love changed people. She sighed.
"Why the sigh?"
"Oh, it's a happy one..i was thinking about Maan...He seemed to have changed in such a short span of time. Seeing them together, fills you with contentment. It was a wonderful party!"
"Yes they make a beautiful couple!" he replied as he raised his hand to adjust the maang tikka on her forehead. Her eyes were drawn to his, but the intensity of his gaze made her look away.
She didn't know why she felt this strange awkwardness all of a sudden, she never felt tongue tied in company. She looked around looking for an inspiration to break the silence with.
"It is a great idea that drinks were served outside!"
"Yes," Rudr agreed smiling inwardly at her tension but deciding to play along. "But then I guess Maan didn't want anything to spoil the day for Geet. After her experience with her lousy excuse for human, her drunkard chacha, she is bound to be frightened of men holding drinks."
Sam looked at Rudr sharply. She was not aware Rudr knew so much about Geet's past. "So you know what happened in her past?"
"Not all the facts, but yes I know she was violated."
"yet you came here prepared to marry her?" the surprise was evident in her voice.
"Why should I even consider that heinous act done against her, when what happened was beyond her? Why should she suffer for someone else's crime?" The strength of his will reflected in his voice.
"There are people who would hold it against a woman."
"Yes...but I don't belong with that group of spineless idiots."
Sameera looked at him, not knowing what to reply. Her respect and admiration for Rudr increased many folds."The lights look beautiful too!" Rudr said seriously.
"What?""Then there is the weather, we should be able to talk about that without hitches for at least ten minutes... Would you like to start or shall I?""I don't understand..." Sam began
"I thought I should supply you with topics to converse on...because you seem to be at short of them when we are alone!" he gave a knowing smile.
"Very funny! You are saying your presence makes me tongue tied?"
" Of course not...we have agreed about the wonderful wedding, what a beautiful couple Maan and Geet make, we have discussed the drinks arrangement... then how can I say you are feeling tongue tied in my presence. It is another matter entirely that I would have preferred to talk about what was in your mind...like how handsome you think I look today, how wonderful it was dancing with me, or..." he lifted her hand to kiss the pulse at the base of it, "...how your pulse raise at my mere touch..."
Sam gasped and pulled her hand back.
"I mean these are more interesting topic than the weather and the light and the flowers!" Rudr grinned.
"May be we should talk about how I dislike egoistic over confident men...or may be..." She stretched towards him to blow gently near his face and placing a hand over his heart continued, "...may be we should talk about why your heart is going 'dhak dhak' just now!" she fluttered her eyes at him.
Rudr held her hand captive when she tried to remove it and peered into her eyes, "Okay let us talk about it.." his voice turned husky, making her heart accelerate.
The sound of laughter drew their attention back to the present. "May be not now, my lady. But soon..." there was a promise in his words.
By the time the last guest was properly waved off, Geet was so tired that she was leaning on Maan for support. Her legs ached and she was practically asleep on her feet. Maan looked down at her drowsy face and said, "Come on sweetheart, it is straight to bed for you."He lifted her in his arms despite protests and carried her to their room. While he helped her remove her jewelry, she lamented that she didn't buy him any gift.
"Doesn't matter. Your presence in my life is the greatest gift." He carried her to the bed.
"And I didn't thank you properly!" came another complaint against herself.
"Okay then thank me, now." He adjusted the pillow under her head, which would be replaced by his shoulder once he lay down beside her, he thought with a smile.
"Thank you Maan." She said sleepily, turning her head towards his with sleep closed eyes and brushing her lips to his cheek. He turned his face ever so slightly that he could touch her lips with his. Removing her hands that was still aroundhis neck, he stood up and whispered to the already asleep Geet. " Good night, my love!"
