Aishwarya, Jassi can be rockets orbiting Earth
HOSHIARPUR: If it was a Tulip in Amsterdam, Bollywood actress and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai could soon have a rocket named after her in America. But hang on - the proposal comes with a rider.
Chicago-based billionaire Dr Chirinjeev Singh Kathuria aka Babbu who has floated 'Planet Space' in partnership with 'Canadian Arrow' to arrange paid tours to space, says, he's willing to name a rocket flight after the woman he marries.
Though, 38-years-old Babbu, one of the most eligible bachelors of Asian origin in the US, wants a sardarni as a bride, he is ready to flout all rules if Aishwarya were to say yes to marry him.
"She's beautiful and any man's dream girl, and I could name a thousand rockets on her," he says.
And who knows, the sardar might create a record of sorts by getting married in space with all the 'dhol dhamaka' (drum-beats) and baratis dressed as astronomers.
However, there could be a twist in the tale i.e. if Aishwarya refuses the offer.
Then, Jasmeet Walia aka Mona Singh of "Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin" fame stands a chance of beating Aishwarya for a 45 minutes trip to space that costs a whopping $250,000 ($20 million if you want to orbit and stay on board).
"She's a beautiful woman and I think she is a sardarni," he says. I've dated a former Miss India and some international models and have come close to marriage twice. But things didn't work out so the exercise has started all over again,'' Babbu claims.
Dr Chirinjeev Kathuria made an unsuccessful attempt to the US senate last year, but is now seeking support from the Republicans to contest the election for the post of Lt governor of the state of Illinois where elections are due in 2006.
Kathuria was instrumental in helping build Mir Corp that created history in 2,000 when it became the world's first company to privately launch and fund a manned space programme.
And for the rest of the girls - don't lose heart. Whatever Chirinjeev's aspirations about marriage, he's still a boy at heart and who knows your next date could be on a rocket, orbiting the earth.
