Nowadays having Information is as important as living...and we are getting that through electronic media and paper media. We place arguments and discuss thoughts based on THAT information. Business men try to plan their businesses and market investments based on the facts and figures provided by the media... Our daily life is highly influenced by the media... In short media as become only one source of information!

My question: Wht if the media is providing wrong information deliberately??

Can media be biased (as they show us the events of history wht they wish to be seen by people, as stated by Dazlingflower)? Or unbiased?

Do we see wht they want us to see? Do we think wht they want us to think? Are we people being indirectly hypnotized and controlled by media? Do govt. shows us wht they want us to see think and hear??? Are we people living in independent countries still dependent on others??

Ur comments.

You are right to some extent, our thinking is deeply affected by the media and even our views are affected by it. But many a times they do it in such a way that the common man is beniffited like exposing the curroption, malfunctioning of the system and many such things. And they are helping. Of course I agree that they are sometimes biased, but after all they are private channels.

I believe that most of us are deeply influenced by the media. We consider most newspaper articles and TV news to be reliable sources of information and quote them to support our arguments and viewpoints.

At times, the media misleads as well. One can easily figure that out by the likes of journos such as Subhash Jha who sees something different and hears something different from 99% of the population. 😛

However, this is countered through multiple sources of media. If one news source refrains from releasing a piece of information, another one will gladly do so. The basic principle of collusion from economics works over here. It is very difficult for the media from all over to agree to mislead the public as a whole as the incentive to "cheat" (or "blab" in this case) always makes an appearance.

For the most part, misleading readers today is not that easy as people read through the articles and try to make sense of the logic presented there.

But to answer your last question, Maryam: Are we dependent on others? Yes, we are. But, it works both ways. The media needs us to rely on them for information. Its an interdependence which only gets disturbed when falsified info gets released.

Media to certain extent is biased. Take example for American TV..over 90% or may be more is controlled by Jewish community. Many Business men who are CEO are Jewish and the most of the channels local and cable are own by Jewish businessmen. They have a lot of control over what Americans can watch. Can't remember what article was it, but it solved a lot of my curiosities. I always wondered why do they show so much of Jewish history. Every other week, we have shows on Genocide that was done to Jewsih community and short and regular movies about it on top of that. There are times when on different channels there were 6 programs running on Jewish history. One was about how they killed them during world war, second was about Hitler and his plans of eradicating the Jewish community, third was the survivors of Genocide. 4the was, what is the impact of genocide on present day Jewish community, 5th was, what were they thinking? - focusing on what did average German person though when they plan was being carried out, and 6th was, sports that Jewish people were good at, but they were held back because of Genocide.
This happens many times.......
If you watch 80's TV shows, many had only white people in it. Bill Cosby stated ," When he made the Bill cosby show, all the TV producers told him that they wanted apoor black family who is not educated." But all the shows showed black people as retarded anyways, so he wanted to change the image. He decided to make a show about educated and civilized black family. He said," everyone told him that he is crazy to make a such a show and he would fail." But the show was a hit. But it's an example, how media has been biased.

Tanaz i agree wht u said that misleading of information isn't easy.. But wht abt the misleading of info by media acting as a lobby/monopoly as Dazlingflower said.. it seems like a dead lock over there where everybody is trying to convey the only message to the public wht they want them to see...

I remember that i saw a documentary relating to science.. it was discussing the Darwinian theory of Evolution (man descended from apes, etc).. U know wht guys!! I was having a jaw-dropped position when i SAW that the skull of a human which was kept in the museum in London for 40 YEARS 😕(i guess) which supports the theory Was Actually the conspiracy of scientists over some political issue AND the skull of a human was attached by the jaw of the ape named "ORANGATAN" !😲!!!😕!!!!(I hope i spelled that correctly😆..) ... Can u believe it!!! 😕Every where else in the media u see the evolution theory and arguments supporting the theory..like the latest one is Mutation of DNA ...This is a process which results in the alteration of DNA..It can be through accidental replication of DNA or it can be done manually through certain chemicals and or electromagnetic radiation…

Abstract from encyclopedia Britannica : "When germinal mutations alter an organism, the effect is usually harmful. Many genetic diseases are the result of such mutations. Harmful genes eventually may be eliminated from a population if they impair the carriers' ability to reproduce at the same rate as their fellows. A mutation will rarely produce a beneficial change. When this does occur, the percentage of organisms with this gene will increase until the mutated gene becomes the norm in the population. In this way, beneficial mutations serve as the raw material of evolution."

Plus they showed the effects of manual mutation on animals in the documentary... they showed cow having an extra leg attached to its front legs.. and flies with destroyed wings ... rats without tails ... rabbits having no ears ... cheeeee🤢

Now wht u people will call that? 😕All I see is the manipulation of the information by media in certain sectors .😡. Not always, but wht is the remedy of such issues? They are constantly showing the evolution theory in a positive way and putting that in the educational courses of young children…I really don't know wht science is doing now… and have they found the truth as yet? But people are going to believe wht the media is saying even if it is portraying only one side of the coin!

( I hope I have not bored u guys.. I know its boring… but this was pinching me so much that I had to burst out !!😡 Sorry guys for that boring science lesson!😉😛)

That's very interesting MNMS. I will read more about it. I was actually aware of the other reason behind bashing down Darwin's theory. It's a religious one. Many of the Orthodox Roman Catholic and Christian communities are against Darwin's theory. They have been trying to bring back Bible version of human evolution in school books. Rich Christian and Catholic communities have been funding research to produce Darwin theory wrong. They want children to learn that human race came out of Adam and Eve. After fighting for decades with the gov't, constitution has let religious private schools teach about Christian version, but public school are still not allowed.
It's a nasty battle between scientists and religious authorities. Let' seeeeeeeeeeee who wins 😆

Thank GOD!!!.... At least somebody liked the science lecture 😃
I know dazlingflower that religion and science do share a strange kind of enigma between them... as u said.. let wait and watch!! 😉

Well ..if hating media could solve the problem, i have done that a 10000000....times😳😕😆 but that doesn't seem to provide a solution!! I agree that sometimes the media is quite helpful and it sort of exposes the systems and its inefficiencies..And day-to-day news and its authenticity are covered by the different sources of media as Tanaz mentioned .. But it does have the POWER to manipulate our thinking and so it may mislead us in some really controversial issue...
I ask again... Is our high dependency on media causing destruction?? having our views changed and may be sometimes hypnotized???😕
