26/8/11: Kesar's final goodbye

26/8/11

KESAR'S LETTER

Kesar feels he always communicated to her better through letters. Actually not, because if he did, she would have long back understood his genuine feelings for her. Kesar still hopes that Gulaal would at least meet him once before he leaves. He was only expecting a courtesy call/visit and it had nothing to do with asking her to be his wife. And in spite of that he runs to look for her the minute he learns that she is absconding.

KESAR GULAAL AT THEIR HOME

The scene was badly planned what with the hide and seek between them. But again, his expressions in remembrance of her, was good. I can't understand Gulaal's denial mode even now. There is a limit to this stubbornness.

KESAR GULAAL SCENE

The scene between Kesar and Gulaal failed to create an impact yet again. I can't deny the fact that Neil was awesome. But the character Gulaal's stubbornness caused an unhappy environment when they were seen together. Instead of feeling happy that "Oh yeah, finally the lost souls meet, I was feeling if the scene could be done away with. I hate the fact that Kesar has to bend in front of Gulaal's ego every single time. He goes to meet her and I couldn't be happy seeing her smile when she heard his bike.

The dialogues were fine. Kesar came over to meet her one last time to save her the trouble of even going and visiting him. He did not even complain why she was absconding last night andleft everyone worried. How much more could he love her, in spite of having the disappointment that she did not come over to meet him after knowing that he was leaving, he chose to carefully say "mujhe toh laga ki jaane se pehle humari mulakat hi nahi ho paayegi". That is because he knows she won't come and so he has decided to take that step forward to see her. And tells her" Tu nahi aayi, toh maine socha ki mei khud hi tumse miloun".

The expressions were fine from Kesar, his tears spoke his feelings in leaving her, in not having her in her life, in not being able to convince her of his love but I don't like the fact that he is even begging her to keep the morsing in his remembrance and she is even denying that. He is even willing to let go off what was dear to him because Gulaal had taken an interest to it once before. Kesar is at least slightly happy that she went on to say that she would remember him without this token of remembrance.

There was ample hurt and pain that rolled down as tears. The feeling was brought forth well by Neil through the strained, choked voice and pauses in between the dialogues as he says, nothing is permanent and change is inevitable. But this begging standing at her door was something I can't relate to. There is a limit to which one can put oneself to such insult. Well there may be argument that this is love. But somewhere this doesn't click. For a relationship to work, the partner's should be equals. They can be flawed but one always having an upper hand is not healthy.

Kesar's generosity and humility is seen in the last words he speaks to her. Kesar has risen in love, so to say that he can even go ahead and blame himself if she cries and also says she would give him happiness through "yaadein", yeah may be he finds happiness even in the pain she caused him by rejecting him. This is literal rejection, disqualification based on her set standards to qualify to love her, to be her life partner.

This scene between Kesar and Gulaal was supposed to be emotional. I did get involved watching it. There were these conflicting emotions in me when I saw this. One being moved by Kesar's words, getting influenced by his hurt, pain and longing. The other was to dislike Gulaal's behavior because Gulaal's attitude shown in the last two episodes really put me off. So my emotions were under check the minute I saw Gulaal in this scene. Honestly her tears did not move me a bit. A woman who is as stubborn as this, who knows very well about her feelings, she hears constantly from her mother and Kunal too about her feelings and then too does not reciprocate his love. What is the point in crying looking at him, what is stopping her? Wonder who is going her to crown her for being the chaste wife to Vasant. No one. Not her parents, her wellwishers or her friends. Is it the issue of being virtuous and unblemished by being singularly devoted to her dead husband? Then she is no more because she does get conscious by his physical proximity and her mind is already filled with Kesar, Kesar and Kesar. Then what is stopping her.

I could see Gulaal's feelings for Kesar but her holding back is strange, even at this point she needs the DIVINE INTERVENTION OF VASANT to tell her to accept Kesar. And what if he did not turn up in her dreams?? She won't accept Kesar? This whole bit of Gulaal accepting Kesar sounds like he is waiting after his probation and a written exam to be qualified as HUSBAND. They could have really made it more beautiful with the availability of talented actors to execute a scene.

Neil's expressive best: SOULFUL REUNION

This would be my last discussion of Neil's expressive best performance on this forum and in this show.
I really thank Neil from my heart. He is a true gem of an actor. Thanks for being our Kesar.
Kesar walks in to see Gulaal rushing to him. For a moment they look at each other. After all the happenings of the past , her realization of his importance in her life, the family's request, Motaba's permission (he was also one who was the first to oppose the Deeyarvatu first) and her subconscious realization through her the last and final permission from her deceased husband, Gulaal is a changed person with emotions clear on her face.

Kesar is unable to grasp her reaction of having missed him even for those few minutes. He asks her indirectly how she would feel when he goes away forever. He was genuinely surprised when Gulaal puts her hand over his mouth because this proximity coming from Gulaal was new to him. Yet he carefully continues to tell her that closing his mouth now is not going to help, he would anyway have to leave. He is firm if not yesterday, he can still leave today. He says "jaana toh padega hi". Kesar is not getting carried away by her tears. He is firm on his decision that he would leave the village because he does not have any more reason to stay. I wonder why this Motaba failed to deliver his letter to her.

Gulaal chokes on her words while asking "Jaana zaroori hai kya?" There was hope in his eyes when she asked him that. She is hoping he would say NO. Kesar is smart, he directs it at her saying he is going unwillingly and she is sending him away. Indirectly he hints at her that her refusal to be part of his life or how Kesar prefers to say, by not making him part of her life, she is forcing him to take this decision.

Gulaal retorts saying he did not consult her before deciding. There was a childlike innocence when he said "Puchta hoon toh", and when he said 'kahan seedha jawab deti hai", there was innocence, a little tantrum mode, little disappointment, all put together. It is hard to put in words to describe the emotions played by Neil in this one sentence that he spoke. He was complaining to her about her when he tried to explain "dekho na!!, ab bhi ghuma phira ke baat kar rahi ho"

Gulaal was so taken over by emotions that she tells in a hushed voice "Mat jaana Kesar". His eyes seek further reassurance seeing the honesty in her eyes. The minute Gulaal says "tere bina ab rehne ki aadat nahi hai Kesar", Kesar's tear filled eyes portrayed absolute disbelief trying to fathom her feelings, trying to gather the inner meaning of what she confessed through those words. That was a perfect timing for his tears to fall down when she reached him for a hug. Gulaal had totally surrendered herself to his love and Kesar was still in a state where he could not believe his own ears and he had almost held his breath in that moment. Realization hit him that his Gulaal had confessed her love in not many words. This was Gulaal who had lived alone in solitude. Today she confesses that she is not in the habit of living in his absence. These words coming from her carry so much meaning than if she had said "mei bhi tumse pyaar karti hoon"

He realizes what she just said in many different words that she loves him. I guess he just realized it and he was back to his senses, his slow and heavy breathing showed his anxiety and accelerated pulse over the fact that he has Gulaal in his life forever. There was contentment and a relief on his face having heard that from her that he finally embraced her and hugged her close to him. Neil's expression was purely awesome showing shock, disbelief, realization, relief, contentment as if his life had a new meaning suddenly, and as though he was wanting to freeze this moment in time.

When she hugs him saying never ever to let her go away from his life, his expression changes to sheer happiness, he has this spark in his eyes and assures her with tears and a smile that he would never even if she tells him. It was like telling her that he would never allow himself to lose her again at any cost, however compelling the situation may be.

After this Kesar and Gulaal hug each other as if they are holding on to their life. Gulaal eases herself to move closer to him and smiles through her tears while Kesar places his hand so tenderly on her back, so securely as if he is holding onto a precious jewel, more precious than his own life. That tenderness in that hug speaks the language of love, so pure and unadulterated. His expression is that of sheer bliss having Gulaal in his life or being part of her life.

Without speaking much to each other, even in the accusations against each other of letting go of each other, this was a perfect union of two souls that have long been deprived all the goodness in life. The tears, the smiles and the hug spoke volumes.

FAMILY REUNION

Kesar appears more confident of himself the minute he has gulaal by his side. He assures his mother that he is staying back and would never leave them. I really thank the camera angle from which they shot Kesar and Pannba's scene, since we could see Kesar's expression of happiness as hugged his mother. The innocence returned when he seen with his mom. A superb expression after this was when Kesar, a tad bit shy, purses his lips and very shyly turns back as an attempt to tell them that Gulaal would remain in this house as his wife. When Gulaal walks in to the living area with her 'goonghat', her decision is clear to all of them saving Kesar the trouble to put it in words about her decision to be his wife. Kesar only smiles but confident that he is, he goes on to hold her and proudly announce to his family that Gulaal is here to stay.

In this Garba sequence,Kesar has all eyes for Gulaal. There is so much warmth in his eyes with love oozing out from his eyes. His excitement and happiness translates into the high energy dance with Gulaal as well as in the dhol playing scene.

Thank you Krisha for this wonderful thread. Thank you updaters because I can read and re read whenever I feel like reading about Neil's performance.
Neil, your role as Kesar was the best till date although I feel close to Abhi. Acting wise, you have set new limits to your own self that I am sure you yourself will out do in your next role. I am hoping for that and sincerely wishing you all the best.
You are wished the best things in life.
