The track of the storm won't be clear till another few days but I sure do hope it misses the US east coast. I think we've all had enough happening lately! :|

Not to diminish Irene, but I feel Irene got a lot of attention due to it hitting populous and populated parts of United States. It is not the worst US has had this year, and others seem to be forgotten.

The North East has never been hit like a hurricane like this before, Vermont is struggling to manage flood waters while NJ & MD cope with bringing power back. The cost of damage is also monumental. They definitely need prayers and support.

However, please take a moment for everyone else as well. A lot more lives were lost in Tuscaloosa and Joplin. They are poorer and rural communities and are still reeling in the damages. The gulf ecosystems have not yet fully recovered from the oil spills. Texas and surrounding counties have a massive drought and farmers face catastrophic losses this year. FEMA funds are running out and many people won't get the aid they need. Please pray for everyone out there and volunteer or donate if possible.

And yes Japan still needs help rebuilding and East Africa has also been hit by a drastic famine. So pause for all people in need across the globe when you pray and give. Of course there is only so little we can do on a global scale, but we can always keep them all in our thoughts.

RTH I def agree with you and of course our prayers extend out to all those in need.

But I stayed specific to the northeast because of not only hurricane irene but also the earthquake that happened. And because it impacted the ENTIRE east coast. And partially because I'm from the area and I personally have never experienced the type of weather we got. That's all.

My heartfelt prayers and sympathies for those who not only lost their homes but also their near and dear.
My cousin's family at Coney Island barely managed to escape. But their house is damaged beyond repair.
But am positive that Human spirit is resilient and many a good samaritans out there will unite to build back what has been lost and extend their helping hand to those who are in need.
