I thank you because after next week, I will finally be weaned off my addiction to the serial Gulaal. Granted, this had already started happening, but only a bit. Despite not spending as much time obsessing about the show as I did in June and early July, I still do spend a considerable time with regards to Gulaal.

Perhaps my obsession won't end on 27 August, but a few days or a week after that. It most likely will never end, as I probably will still visit the forum, catch up on old episodes, read old analyses, etc, etc.

But it will be in a much more leisurely manner: a slow, spaced out enjoyment. Thus I will be far more productive in other areas after Gulaal ends.

If you had allowed Gulaal to go on for a couple more months so it could draw to a natural close in a more seasoned and appropriate pace, it would have been great for my enjoyment and for the quality of this piece of art.

But see, that would also mean that Gulaal would take up an inappropriate amount of space and time in my life during those months. I am honestly somewhat relieved and happy that won't be the case.

Therefore I offer you my gratitude. Gratitude for giving me my time and life back.

Sincerely,
Me

Aww, very nicely written. It will be a real loss for star plus- I don't understand why they don't see that. I'll miss this unique, refreshing show for sure 😭

Thanks. I'll miss it too. I would like to think that there will be others shows that can boast of such quality and beauty on Indian television. But who knows.

You know it's amazing...I'd also like to think that there can be other shows which boast of this kind of quality, this kind of HOLD over their storyline consistently long term but indeed who knows...

This very production house...which has otherwise churned out stuff like Balika Vadhu and Saat Phere...none of it's other shows have maintained storyline consistency of this sort...they've all meandered off into ridiculous tangents even though they've all had a powerful cast of actors in them too.

Gulaal just seems to have been a miracle in the midst of the madness I guess...somehow the writers of this show have been ALLOWED to stay true to the story throughout...I'm thankful for that...most shows cave in within a few months of starting to channel pressures but this show held it's head high...despite such an unconventional plot that most ppl probably can't deal with.

I've wondered how good SO's other serials are. I've only recently gotten into exploring Hindi serials, But now I see they are nowhere near as good as Gulaal. I do find it amusing, (and probably somewhat true) that the wikipedia page for Gulaal says it's Sphere Origins' baby. 😛

They certainly have handled it as if it were a show that is dear to them.

With regards to this I wonder if maybe... perhaps... Star Plus should get some credit. I am curious in that aspect. Was it a lack of channel pressure, conviction of the Production House, or both?

I wouldn't usually give SP much credit seeing it's track record with all it's other shows which have gone off-track within 4-5 months of starting...but in this case I guess it could indeed be a bit of both...the production house standing by it's conviction in the show and the channel not really interfering as it is otherwise likely to...yes SP did it's share of damage otherwise by never bothering to promote the show much through repeats or frequent promos...but otherwise it largely let the show be...for which I guess I am more thankful cuz it seems that invariably the more "interest" channels take in some shows, the more they get ruined.

I will applaud the production house though for showing such conviction in the show when the plot and subject is so unconventional and has to be treated with finesse...and they managed that...hats off to them...and the production values which I just have to mention again...have been absolutely top class...they've given us a truly cinematic experience complete with a story worthy of the best of cinema👏

Arshi (can I call you that?!) - Agree with all you say about the show - wonderfully at that - nothing to add.

As for credit to SP - it's a debate. I don't know if I can really credit them after realizing their forever anti bias towards the promotion of this show in general - which if nothing else, has at least managed to keep a chunk of viewers completely oblivious of the existence of such a genius on TV! There could be more like us, I like to believe there are, who look for something fruitful to watch and never discovered Gulaal, because the channel promotions were oh-so-dismissive. As for their role in allowing such a show to run its life, without interfering with the track - well, maybe someone on the admin who matters has a genuine soft corner for real creativity and has managed to keep it running. I certainly don't think SP admin has a unanimous pro vote on Gulaal - or we'd see the favoritism as obviously as we see the contradiction right now. Additionally, the way they've banked on negative publicity of TRPs and what not to gain a high point at this climatic point of the show has - I think - while giving their show more attention, also managed to deter some potential viewers - IMO.

So well. The only people I can credit and thank with my heart are the crew and cast of Gulaal the show. Whatever else each of them has contributed ever else - their coming together as a team for this show has surely been fatefully lucky for us. It shall always remain a show I cherish, and one I'm proud to have watched!

xx
