But yeah, I do know that NB's entry only made news as he was about to enter.

LOL it would fit, haina?? Considering literally every other step has been so well planned in detail...I'd almost expect it too...but I guess we can only speculate😆

It's a debate - whether or not NB was always their choice - but I think the storyline itself was always a plan. Not as intricately carved out, episode by episode with a written script ready - but the outline, the idea of where they were going with it!

Like the little jhumka incident, I don't think when they first got the jhumkas in that scene they already had the recent comeback of it in mind - but they hadn't written it off, and that's the beauty of this script - it keeps track of its little hints and nuances tying them up well... what you have - and need - at the beginning is an outline of central characters, central plot, and underlying theme. I think they always had that in place - is it even surprising how crappy Indian shows are because they are most often devoid of those three very basic pre-reqs?! They were certainly working very hard at 'not letting the cat out of the bag'. The entire publicity of a show as a story of girl who could find water is almost anti promoting in sense, if you think of it - not something that would attract attention of masses, add to that the girl falling in love - yes you get some more fans, but you also tend to lose out on people who were looking at it (even in minority) for the story of a girl who can find water - or more figuratively, a story about legends from the deserts - because the moment they find a love angle, they probably think the story will be lost to the love angle - as often happens... but what awaits you in the plot, is entirely a different matter! And keeping it in wraps was always a good idea. If everyone always knew it had to be GK, the phase of GV coming together would have felt like a filler - and a filler or 5 months can be fatal to any show! So they were pretty wise about keeping the real plan a secret...

As for NB landing the role - its his stint as destiny's child. Most likely the best role he will ever do - not to mention the best actor this role could get. Perhaps there could be another. But that perhaps is even less probable than NB finding another role half as awesome...

Oh BTW, my mother told me that in the big television awards yesterday - Ali was nominated for the category of most dulara character... obviously he didn't win - any guesses who did 🤢

The Jigar character from that show where they air a fortnight's worth of episodes in Garba competitions 😳

just read this series of posts...😊

Well, contrary to its title and initial posts , what it actually seems like is a detective series exploring the making of Gulaal 😊 and it was lovely to read all your posts - from the u tube interview to the plot under wraps to the promotions the tracing of Neil Bhatt entry .👍🏼...wonderful , thoroughly enjoyed reading 👏👏👏

lots of love,

Iremember after kb in the month of december neil bhatt had written in fb that he had signed a new show &come soon in a new chracter where hewould have varrious shade including a grey one too.I think he was talking about Gulal at that timen

JZee, completely agree on your second to last post. And great point about the first five months thought of as filler (despite it NOT being filler at all in the least bit) were the eventual direction revealed.

VJ_LMNDJ, yes the discussion has taken a life of its own, hasn't it.

So he reveals in December that he has signed a new show. Wow great tidbit to know. Thanks. This is why many of the articles and reports about serials are poppycock. I remember some saying how Killing off Vasant, Deeyarvattu, were in response to falling TRPs.

That can't be the case if Neil Bhatt had already been signed by December. And let's assume that he wrote it soon after he had signed, rather than later. There would have been some time period of testing, auditioning, screening for chemistry, etc.

All in all, great job show runners. Coming up with a general idea, keeping it under wraps, and following it through. Because that's how it should be in many cases, give clues and subtle foreshadowing that some people catch and wonder if they are just reading too much into things. And once the plot has smoothly progressed to that dramatic point, those who caught the signs will understand, and others will appreciate it in hindsight.

Tip of the hat to those involved in bringing about this diamond in the rough.

@bold: They totally are! Every single random article about TRP driven plots/tracks has all been hogwash...this show was planned from start to finish...Manasi's latest interview confirms that...especially this excerpt:

Gulaal was about a girl who could find water. But she did find water only twice in the show. Why wasn't the track followed? And do you feel if Vasant hadn't been killed -it could have helped the show?

Manasi replies, "No the water bit and Vasant's death were never an issue. The core of Gulaal's story was always the deyarvatu. I knew the story from beginning to end and Vasant's death or her water finding ability were explored as required in the story ' it was never the main plot."

I SO agree with you about how this is how it SHOULD be...LET the story unfold...Have a plan about where the story is going...As Manasi herself confirms...the water finding, Vasant etc. were all phases leading towards the larger basic storyline of Kesar and the deeyarvattu...

@blue: Totally agree👏

^^ You know what amazes me about that interview? That the interviewer would even ask something like
Gulaal was about a girl who could find water. But she did find water only twice in the show. Why wasn't the track followed? And do you feel if Vasant hadn't been killed -it could have helped the show?

Seriously? Either they are clueless, or they took a route of asking a safe (albeit dumb) question which they knew would lead to the answer they really wanted.

Either way, how am I supposed to be optimistic about the future of this medium after such questions?
