He last played a moral policeman in Anees Bazmee's Thank You and now it seems that Akshay Kumar is so high on righteousness that he has decided to play Lord Krishna in his upcoming project.

The actor was reportedly very inspired by Paresh Rawal's Hindi play Krishan Vs Kanhaiya, a story centred around the clash between an atheist and God. And so, Akshay has decided to turn the hugely successful play into a feature film.

A source informed that Akshay, who had been toying with the idea for quite sometime, was convinced to go ahead with the project after watching the play, on Monday, at Rangsharda auditorium (Bandra East).

Reportedly, Akshay will essay the character of Kanhaiya in the film and his production house Hari Om Productions will co-produce the venture with Rawal. Currently, they are busy scouting for an actor to play Krishan.

The source added, "Akshay and Paresh plan to start the film sometime next year. They are going to do location recces soon and finalise the cast."

When contacted, Rawal simply said, "You are right, Akshay did come to see Krishan Vs Kanhaiya. Although, I haven't yet finalised if the play will be converted into a film, but anything is possible."

Apparently, Akshay was accompanied by his wife Twinkle, son Aarav, mother-in-law Dimple, and sister Alka to the play.

Ace director Rajkumar Hirani, producer of upcoming film Society Rakesh Upadhyay and media man Subhash Goel were also present at the screening.

The industry is abuzz with speculations about Hirani and Goel vying for the rights to the same play.

Despite repeated attempts, Akshay remained unavailable for comment. Krishan Vs Kanhaiya, which was originally inspired by the Gujarati super hit play Kanji Virrudh Kanji, tells the story of an atheist who incurs huge losses, when his antique shop is destroyed by an earthquake.

Akshay came to watch my play but I haven't finalised if this will be converted into a film. Anything is possible
