Can we help Gulaal become popular?

It may be true that Gulaal has not been given the right kind of support by Star Plus (other than the prime time slot). I remember at Star Parivar Award 2011, Gulaal was suppressed very badly by shows which did not deserve to be called shows. The worst thing was that in the new comer's category (I guess that was) Mansi Parekh was nominated and the award was shared between the two actors Gopi and Rashi from the same daily show. I have seen that serial recently to understand the level of acting / or what is special that they have. Its the most monotonous role and storyline I have ever seen. Nothing personal against that show but mostly all the lead roles are more like robots/zombies. No expressions whatsoever. Its a school level acting display. Yet it was one of the popular shows at Star Parivaar Awards. It was being projected very highly along with 2-3 more shows.

So I was wondering if Gulaal not being given the limelight for a show which is running at the prime time. Is it because of Ekta Kappor, whose ego has earned her more enemies than friends. But Gulaal is something really creative and possibly only someone like Ekta Kapoor can come up with such a show. Or simply that Gulaal is being mishandled by StarPlus.

Gulaal has big caste and each one of them is a thorough professional. I guess (Rahil Azim) Vasant had more magic as a protagonist than Neil Bhatt. Nothing against Neil as an actor as he is doing a great job and portraying his character professionally, just in comparison of the presence. But Vasant did make a great difference to the show possibly because of the romantic track and he could do all what a hero could do. I have seen all the earlier episodes of Gulaal and he is marvelous. Now he is out. But in Gulaal all the actors have been brilliant in performing their roles.
I don't want us to start arguing about the Neil and Rahil, they are both great, but the show is not clicking at the TRPs!!!

Here is the question where I would appreciate your input. This may help the CVs to understand how we look at the show. You may help save Gulaal by giving your valuable input.

We have great caste, great storyline, great director and a prime time slot, the TRP's are still going down, what is wrong and where??? How can the TRPs/ popularity of the show be brought up without compromising much with the uniqueness and high standards of the show?

PS: Instead of writing 300 words paragraph, can you list the points in bullets! Whatever you feel is stopping the show from becoming popular.
thanks.

Erm the show never really got the TRPs of Star Plus standards even with Vasant there. It's been under the scanner since almost the inception it seems 🤣 There is no point of comparing Vasant and Kesar but if you really want to talk about popularity then have a look at the activity of this forum when it was GV and then look at the amount of fans it got post leap with GK. Even articles have claimed that the trps DID go up after the leap but the problem is that the channel expects too much from their prime time shows. GV had some fans but GK have a fan-following! If Vasant had more 'magic' than Kesar, he would have been alive even now but he's not! :)

If the show is to be saved then the people sitting at home need to appreciate quality storytelling but unfortunately they like watching their senseless dramas no matter how pathetic and illogical they are.

I do a know a way Gulaal can be more appreciated. It wouldn't help much with the TRPs or any such thing. Start a channel on Viki, either upload the HQ starplayer quality vids, or source it from the original Starplayer vids themselves. Sub.

I guarantee it will get a lot of watchers.

We can't change the peoples standard sitting at home, so any suggestions in making any changes to current show, which should appeal to general viewers? Is it difficult for people to understand the show e.g. do they need more details?

But I wouldn't want changes to appeal to the general viewers. I know this means more chance of a cancellation, but why should the show dilute its quality to appeal to those who want more Saas Bahu, or mindless eyelocks between the leads.

Personally, If the show ended naturally after a couple more months, I would have no problem. Or even if Star Plus gave the makers a couple months' notice. We don't know what the CVs have been told, but one thing that bothers me is what many of the articles imply. That Gulaal may or may not shift to a new timeslot. How is that fair to the creatives? This is not a problem with just the Indian television industry, but other television industries as well. But nevertheless, it sucks that they're not at least given a few months warning ahead of a sure cancellation.

This show should never change for the sake of viewers who can't appreciate the intelligent writing. What's the point? Then it would become a run of the mill show which caters to a bunch of people who don't like 'thinking'. I'd much rather have it go off-air than to be it ruined like that!

LOL I'm damn amused at the Vasant v/s Kesar argument being raised YET again...😆

Vasant was a larger than life hero figure...if that was all there was supposed to be to Gulaal as a show, it would have stagnated LONG time back. But yeah maybe it would have gotten higher TRPs since audience tastes don't evolve beyond lame crapfests like Saathiya or whatever other kind of crap polluting the airwaves currently...The more pathetic, typical and TRITE a show, the more ppl enjoy it...amazing equation.

Kesar as a character is too brilliantly multi-layered...First Ali's ...and now Neil's portrayal of him is so fantastic that in my opinion, it MAKES the show to a large extent...I wouldn't trade that for anything...not even the so called so important TRPs...if only crapfests can get TRPs, then they are welcome to those TRPs...

I'd rather a show's quality be retained throughout...which is what Gulaal has done till this day and that is very commendable.

well i would say the only problem with the show was some misconception
1. the show was promoted as the girl having the magical ability to find water...after bidaai ppl expectation were high... bidaai storyline was good initially...and then this show came i honestly thought y am i gonna watch the discovery channel kind of show...
2. the deeyarvattu that happened in the show...was disturbing to many ppl ya i watched it and was like disgusting y should i enjoy it ...generalli we indians dont prefer these relations...i mean if there is relation between a kid and adult its treated with due respect...still kids addresses adults bhaiya didi bhabhi chacha..its in our culture and we really cherish it we dont call a person who is 10 year older with her name...thats still there in indian society
3. after deeyarvattu show itself misguided the relationship between gulaal and kesar...remember daiba saying panba gulaal is yashoda maiyya to kesar...thats quite disturbing...i know gulaal never said but y cv point out thise stupid thing y did they made diaba call gulaal yashoda maiyya...either indians can treat gulaal maiyya or rukamani we cant treat her both...
thats some of the point need to go will come again and add some more😳😳...

I dint find anything wrong daiba in calling gulaal as yashodha at that point of time
because no body knew what will be their future relation like...
no body knew that a day will come kesar will fall in love..
so daiba made a general comment to console paanba..
no body can speculate what the future will be..thats what happend with KG and thats why it is an unconvential and yet pure love story
