dowry has lots its original meaning in 2days day and age...before it used 2 b the essential items...m talkin abt 1000s of yrs ago ppl used 2 giv the essential daily necessities as dowry to their daughters..if money was given it was a small amount however now dowry given at the mandap is jus the beginning of a lifelong torture for more...
i dnt knw of ne1 who went thru dowry issues personally bt i hav heard many stories abt hw women in villages in particular r burnt alive becos their in laws r nt satisfied with the dowry they bought... n they cover up the incident by sayin it was an accident...n also wer sum brides wer left on the mandap or day b4 wedding becos their parents failed 2 meet demands the in laws placed LAST MINUTE! its reali sad 2 c tht ppl like this still exist...
If a woman came 2 me askin for help i would defo help her...bt one advice i wud like 2 giv 2 woman out der is tht they shudnt jus bare all this basless demand of mre dahej n money... its wrong... they shud stand up 2 it n say no! i no it cn b difficult bt its the 1st n mst essential step in putting an end to this whole dowry issue...becos dowry no longer defines its original definition... ppl nowadays ask for money, houses, cars, jewellery n god knws wt else...n i dnt gt y bt girl's parents giv in2 these demands simply becos they fear tht if the alliance is broken off thn ppl wil talk...bt who cares...thts wt the society does...point fingers at others bt never luks 2 c hw faulty they r from within... i wish parents could see their daughters as equal as sons rather than seeing them as burdens...
another thing i hear from my elders is hw poor families tend 2 start saving money for their daughter's dahej from the day she is born...i feel bad wen i hear tht becos obv they knw tht they wil hav 2 giv lots of money n so start saving very early on evn at the cost of remaining deprived from good things thmselves...if onli ppl wer nt as strict n narrowminded regarding dahej thn many poor families wudnt b half as poor as they r...
personally i feel tht dowry shudnt b given esp nt 2 ppl who r able 2 provide the necessary things in life...bt i think its a custom ppl in both countries wil neva stop following
