The very first ME after the leap made me admire a tv fiction for the first time.
After that I became a Kesar, Gulaal and Gulsar fan. Because they are not acting at all, but living on-screen and it is very rare to see such talents esp in a tv show. 😊
Romance in between them is not just filmy or sappy, it is more like real life couple romance, so light and lively and unintentional which makes it so nice and cute. This serial has connected the past and present events in such an amazing way gives a feeling that the track till date were so preplanned long ago while in most other shows the past may have nothing to do with the present, like starts with a single story, brings out multiple tracks climax will be contrary to the start.
I think the struggle of Gulaal serial is like New Wave or art film V/S commercials. Art films are more real-life like and better quality but masses prefer exaggerated unreal life situations.
If Gulaal was a cinema then I think it would have at least got nominated for a national award.

Well in my view, the reason why they are taking this show off air is bcoz it does not have the following important ingredients :
1. Over stretched "mysteries" like who added refined oil instead of pure ghee in a certain dish (kind of shown in "Saathiya", when i accidently stumbled upon one such episode)
2. A two month epic on "What is there in dadima's Sandookh? " (Courtesy "Saathiya" again. the so called No.1 show on our proud channel)
3. The show ppl have neither allowed the dead (aka Vasant) to return nor have they given him a plastic surgery which is mandatory as per the channel laws
4. One of the most significant reasons is that the protagonist in the show has not been allowed to shed enough tears to be able to gather enough sympathy from "the viewers" which has in turn affected the TRPs. Rather she has been shown as a "strong" woman. (How dare she????)
5. Another reason is that the storyline of gulaal has managed to stay on track whereas it is customary for indian shows to waver about in almost every direction once a female gets married and enters a particular house with months and months being dedicated to her sis-in-law, mom-in-law, aunt-in-law, bro-in-law, dadi-in-law etc etc and their petty stuff
6. Last but not the least, despite repeated efforts the CVs failed to bring around a mismatched marriage (read "Kesar-Talli") which is the official way of dragging a show on TV (by showing subsequent developments where they take ages to fall in love with almost anybdy once u r married to him/her or watever)
Well... tht was kind of weird post bt i really cant get over this piece of news... it will leave nothing to watch on TV.. this is the only daily soap tht i watch..😭

😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Can we take Gulaal to Sony or Zee TV? Why we are bothering about star plus?

Lol...absolutely love your sarcasm. And totally agree with you.

But it is not only Star Plus or the greedy Murdocks who run the New Corp empire that are to blame for the demise of this treasure. We also have to blame the TV watching public that laps up the likes of Saathyia and whatever drivel that is presented as entertainment. Star Plus would keep the quality shows on air if the public actually watched them and supported them.

I am saddened by the news of the cancellation of Gulaal but deeply disappointed that a story about a strong woman and a show with such wonderful relationships was not taken up by the viewers of Indian Television!

Mini, well said with good points. All the points were good.

I hate watching saathiya where they drag same topic for months and months, such as Rashi trying to chase Gopi out of the house, Sandookh etc. Yet this soap tops the Gulaal on chart. Surprises me.

Where as Gulaal has brought freshness to its episode and never run away from its track.

None other soap can capture my interest as it does.

I find Gulaal essentially a mini bollywood and its quality is of high standard from sets, casts, locations, script, story, casts performance everything.

I hate to see Gulaal ending so soon despite that it has so much to offer to viewers.

@minidixit

Superb post and every word is absolutely true. These are the only ingredients that make a show successful on Star Plus channels. I hate this channel. I love this show. In fact this is the one show I watch each and every episode of and have so far not found even one single episode boring or as u rightly say have not felt the story drifting in any episode. But good shows don't garner TRPs and channels want only TRPs. as for our Indian viewers...their IQ can be seen from the shows that are successful. The only things they like and appreciate are what u have written...

Anyways a very nice post. Loved it and happy to find someone who is on my wavelength also.

Very well written ...why else would a show like Gulaal be axed ? Gulaal in a very clear headed show with a consistent storyline , direction and acting ..which has the rare quality that no matter which episode you watch, it is consistent with the overall flow of the story that has been going on , and whether you like the episode or not , you are sure you are watching the same people you met some time back ...the characters are so beautifully and consistently etched...
Whether it ends or continues, Gulaal will remain a beautiful and memorable show .
