Ra1 Fetches Highest Satellite Price Ever

The Shahrukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer Ra1 has fetched the highest price ever for satellite rights of 35 crore just edging out the 33 crore figure for Three Idiots. The satellite market is buzzing with the three channels Star, Colours and Zee all prepared to pay big money for big budgets star studded films. Star has taken the rights for Ra1 which is the costliest Hindi film ever with a production budget of around 100 crore.

Its a sellers market for satellite rights with huge offers coming in for the big films. A film like Housefull 2 which is yet to go on the floors has also been taken by Star for a figure reportedly to be over 25 crore. Desi Boyz and Joker have been taken by Zee for similar prices.

Satellite right prices have been on the up turn since early 2010 and seem to be growing at a higher rate than actual theatrical box office growth in India. Its a huge plus for the makers of star studded films as it guarantees a huge sum and is not dependent on content as the theatrical return is. A few years back when there was a downturn, there were clauses which allowed the buyers to adjust the price if the film was not up to the mark but it was a buyers market while today its a complete sellers market with the satellite channels desperate to get their hands on the star studded films at any cost.

Bodygaurd Satellite With Star Network For Huge Price

The much awaited Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer has fetched huge a price for satellite rights. The film has been taken by Star Network and the price is rumoured to be around the 30 crore mark. Its a huge chunk of the investment back for Reliance who are the investors on Bodyguard.

Earlier this year Ra1 had fetched a record price of 35 crore for satellite rights. Ra1 was also taken by Star Network. The satellite price of Bodyguard is the third highest ever after Ra1 and Three Idiots.

Star Network have an enviable list of biggies with Ra1, Bodygaurd, Housefull 2 and Singham. Housefull 2 has fetched 26 crore and Singham 19 crore.

These days satellite market is booming and thats the REASON most films with good starcast are getting good prices for satellite rights

Three Akshay starrers have gone for Huge prices which are bigger than TMK and TY

DESI BOYZ and JOKER have gone to ZEE for 25 and 22-4 cr respectively while HOUSEFULL 2 has been taken by STAR for over 25 crs

Another Biggie Saif-bebo starrer AGENT VINOD has been picked up by ZEE for 18-20 cr

So glad that ZNMD has done so well, Hrithik has once again proved his detractors wrong by re-establishing his box office pull and I'm sure that Krrish 3 will be bigger and better!

New Releases Dull Lafangey Parindey Fair First Week

The new releases this week which included Aashayein, Antardwand, Gumshuda, Geng, Hello Darling, Madholal Keep Walking and Soch Lo all had very dull openings in the 0-10% range. Shows had to be cancelled of some the releases at many places.

Lafangey Parindey had fair first week of 17 crore nett and its 8th day was okay and much better than the new releases. The film will make good money for its makers due to good satellite price.

Peepli [Live] dropped in week two as it collected 6.25 crore nett taking its two week total to 27.50 crore nett. The film is likely to have a lifetime distributor share of around 14-14.50 crore. ABOVE AVERAGE

Break Ke Baad Is A Good Earner

The film should manage to earn revenue of 33 crore against investment of 25 crore which is 32% return and better than hit theatrical performers like My Name Is Khan, Hosefull and Once Upon A Time In Mumbai

My Name Is Khan had a 95 crore investment and 100 cr revenue without music (5% return)

Housefull had a 60 crore investment and 70 crore revenue (17% return)

Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai had a 40 crore investment and 52 crore revenue (30% return)

Break Ke Baad has not done well theatrically but still managed to earn good money due to reasonable costs and a big satellite price.

The film has at total investment of around 25 crore including release costs and promotion. The cost is reasonable as the main lead Imran Khan is on a profit sharing deal as his remuneration.

Break Ke Baad fetched 13 crore for its satellite rights while music and home video added another 5 crore making it 18 crore for non theatrical rights. The first weekend share worldwide will be about 7 crore meaning costs recovered.

i just wanted to show that ZNMD will just about break even..except for publicity costs..but will be considered a hit

i think films budgets are made according to the returns they expect...

i never counted ZNMD hit in Katy's films... it still has to collect more than 8 crores just to get a HIT Tag.

We had argument over Off-Beat movies... ZNMD is not a OFF-BEAT movie...
