Chapter 47 – Missed Date

Same Day 6:00 PM

Maan entered KM in white shirt and khaki pants. His top two buttons were open giving a peak at his carved chest. He looked handsome and fresh in the American style color combination. He had just showered and had left his wet hair to dry naturally giving him a boyish look.

Everyone was present in the living room playing cards except for Chaiyiji who was praying with her beads and Geet, who had gone to get tea for everybody.

Naintara smiled seeing Maan enter. Juhi looked at his son walking thru the living room doors – "Maan…aaj kya baat hai…Sunday evening aur aap yahan…"There was quite a surprise in her voice as Maan never stayed at home on Sunday evenings.

Maan happily plopped himself next to her – "Kyon aap itna kyon hairan ho rahi ho Mom…aapko koi problem hai kya"

Juhi- "Le…mujhe kya problem hogi but definitely I am surprised….aaj kisi dost ke saath meeting nahin hai kya"

Annie also thought of teasing Maan especially since she had found out about Naintara's proposal – "Kyon bhai aaj hum sabki yaad kaise aa gayi?"

Maan was totally oblivious to the undercurrents flowing.– "Yeah you are right…I don't have time for your stupid talks that too on Sunday evening but kya karien meri girl friend ne mujhe dhoka de diya"

Geet who had just entered the room with tray was stunned to see Maan happily sitting next to both their moms and saying that his Girlfriend ne….what…what did he say? Geet gave a warning look to Maan.

Nisha – "Acha ji…toh aap ki girl friend bhi hai kya…"

Maan – "Off course badi ma"

Pari – "To kya usne aapko dump kar diya ?"

Maan with attitude – "Ji nahin darling Pari…woh kya hai na uske kuch relatives aayien hue hain…so my date is cancelled"

Geet's jaw dropped listening to Maan's comments. She gave daggers to him but Maan just grinned. Geet's st "Babaji…aaj inko kya hua hai…yeh to meri jaan leke rahenge"

Naintara and Chaiyiji looked uneasily at the discussion going on. But Nisha gave them assurance with her eyes.

Nisha – "By the way Maan aap ki sach mein agar girl friend hoti to aap itni jaldi haar maan lete kya…who bhi kuch relatives se…chi chi chi…yeh to umeed nahin thi humein aapse"

Everybody laughed.

Maan looked at Geet and said with attitude and imitating Raj Kumar's voice "Jaani…hum un mein se hain jisse zamana haar manta hai…hum zaamane se nahin…agar who date cancel karti to hum itna dum rakhte hain…uske ghar mein ghus kar…uske apnon ke same usse aapne dil ki baat keh dein" (Guy's Raj Kumar is an old Hindi movie star who had a very distinctive style of speaking…)

Geet was now really scared and pleading him with her eyes to stop but Maan was no where listening to her.

Rahul – "Acha aisa hai to yeh bhi batade wahan jaake kya kehte Dr Maan Singh Khurana"

Maan – "Simple….uske ghar jaata aur" he buzzed something in Rahul's ear who hi-fied with him. He quickly went upstairs while everyone looked at both of them quizzically.

Raj – "Yeh kya ho raha hai….share with all of us"

"Haan Haan…yes…."

Rahul came down with guitar and gave it to Maan.

Maan – "Silence everyone…so where was I ….yes I would have simply gone to her house and stood in her living room and said in front of everybody…"

Maan struck Guitar's chord while Rahul gave tabla beats with the help of table.

Geet was awestruck to see this romantic side of Maan. At one side she felt like a princess who was pampered beyond her imagination by her Maan and at the same time she was scared stiff. But she could not help smiling at the way Maan was prophesying his love in front of everyone. She knew his every word was from his heart and was only for her.

Maan picked Annie's hands and started dancing in the middle.

Chayiji nudged Naintara in the middle but Maan just moved to the kitchen door where Geet was still standing.

Geet tried to move back into kitchen but Maan stood with his one foot on the back wall next to her.

He got up on the dining table placed next to the door and continued singing

Rahul too joined him on the table with Pari and everyone standing around them and clapping.

Raj and Rishab whistled and hooted as Maan and Rahul bowed. Rishab – "Kya baat hai…kya baat hai…seriously Maan ab tu jald se girl friend bana hi le"

Maan winked at Geet who blushed profusely and ran into kitchen.

Same Night 8:30 PM

All were settled for Dinner. Geet and Pari were serving while everyone ate. Maan was trying to ask Geet to sit down next to her with his eyes but Geet was reluctant in front of everyone.

He got angry and decided another approach.

Maan - "pata nahin kyon mujhe itni bhook nahin lag rahi hai"

Rishab – "Kyon kya hua…abhi to tu shor kar raha tha that you are hungry"

Maan – "Don't know Dad…let me get some water…who knows I may feel better."

Geet understood that Maan will not eat dinner today if she didn't sit next to him. She took a glass of water and placed it in front of him. "yeh lo" and saying that she sat next to him.

She requested him with her eyes – "Please ab to kha lo"

Maan gave her a half smile and drank some water – "yeah much better"
