Shruti Jambhekar, TNN | Jul 10, 2011, 12.00am ISTCurrently, she is doing Beend Banunga Ghodi Chaddhunga and she was in the town for a promotional trip. Dressed in a lovely burnt orange kurta and churidaar, she was affable and charming.
She is playing mother to the female protagonist in the soap. Talking about her role she says, "I play a sweet obedient bahu who will never go against her family. But at the same time, I have very strong opinions about some things." Ask her if she is comfortable playing characters older to her age and Khyaati says, "I knew I will be playing the role of female lead's mother. For me a character matters. It is a good challenge to step into the shoes of different characters. I like to play strong characters." Khyaati has played strong roles in serials like Kesar, Mamta, Woh Rehnewali Mehelon Ki and many more. Although, Beend..., is her comeback to television after three years as she took a break after daughter's birth. "I have two children. My son Kanha is six years old and daughter Sysha is three. I have been very lucky that I'm able to juggle both my personal and professional life in a balanced way. And this is what I wanted for myself. I'm lucky to have supportive husband and mother." By her own admission, Khyaati can keep talking about her kids!
About her love for acting, she credits her genes, "My dad has been an actor from National School of Drama and that's how I developed my interest in acting. Also, in future, I aspire to take up theatre because I feel what I do on television is not one should call acting. It is theatre that can help me to explore 'real acting'." And for Khyaati, reality shows are, "not my cup of tea. I feel all of them are scripted." Also, Khyaati will soon be seen in Mahesh Manjrekar's upcoming flick Deh, prior to this, she was also seen in Anil Kapoor starrer film Nayak-The Real Hero.
In her leisure time, Khyaati loves, "to read thriller based fictions and being with my children. And, I love to watch lots of Hollywood flicks and whenever I get some time off work, we pack off to nearest tourist destinations!"
Khyaati has a soft corner for Gujarat because "my mom is a Gujarati who belongs to Khambat. I have spent my entire vacations there. That's why whenever I get a chance to visit Gujarat, I'm all game. Also, I'm very fond of khakhras which I am buying from here. I also wanted to visit Akshardham temple but, my schedule didn't permit me this time." And on this note, she signs off.
