It's a woman's world
If hoardings of moustached women across the city have been bothering you for a while, then the story is now revealed! 'Twinkle Beauty Parlour' is finally going to hit the small screen next week.
The story of five women, the show revolves around relationships, bonding and middle-class mindsets.
"Since it's about middle-class women, we decided to bring them out of their living rooms into a space where they can relate to each other, chat and gossip. And we came up with the concept of 'Twinkle Beauty Parlour'," explains Vikas Bahl, business head of SAB TV.
Narayani Shastri, who plays Ranjana, runs the parlour and her clients are her neighbourhood friends. "We wanted faces that would suit the characters. We wanted women who would not be interested in designer wear but would rather pick up the cheapest sari from a sale. That's how we zeroed in on Narayani, Smita Bansal, Maninee De and Simple Kaul," admits Priya Mishra, programming head.
Maninee De (Ragini), who plays a lawyer, says, "I can identify with my character because to a certain extent I am like Ragini - a woman in a man's world. Being a single mother Ragini also has to deal with a problematic child. I know what this feels because I was a single parent for five years." The show has an all women's team including the director, writer and producer.
