On screen she comes across as a coy and simple girl in her daily show.
But off screen she's chatty and spunky. Telly debutante Soumya Seth is a bundle of energy and can talk about everything under the sun.
For someone who's never done TV before, landing a lead role in a prime time show must have been quite a coup of sorts? Soumya grins, "You know every actor probably says this, but I never planned to take up acting as a profession. I'm a happy-go-lucky kind of person who loves being with family, friends and wants to enjoy every moment of my life. A day after my birthday last October, I met a friend who is a co-ordinator with a production house and he suggested that I audition for this show. I'm very lucky to have landed the role of Navya (in Navya) without having to struggle."
However, Soumya doesn't relate to her reel character at all. "Navya is very quiet and simple. I can't be out of words ever. When I get nervous sometimes like her, I don't start crying, instead I laugh it off and everything falls in place for me." Her first brush with acting has been pretty good so far. "It feels awesome to be associated with a good production house where the cast/crew are so supportive. My only problem is that I have to keep quiet when I am acting as I don't have too many dialogues and I have to convey everything with expressions. I balance it by chatting a lot when off camera!"
Now that Soumya has stepped into the glam world, does she have big plans for herself? Soumya shrugs and says, "I don't know what will happen to me tomorrow, so I can't plan anything right now. Life is unpredictable. But now that I'm a part of the television industry, I'm ready for anything and everything. Just bring it on! I'd love to host a reality show or participate in a dance-based show because that will make me meet new people and learn a lot." Apart from television, this Mumbai- girl has other dreams too. "I
always tell my dad that I'll become a businesswoman someday. Who knows in future I might do that too. Oh and I'd like to try my hand at being an RJ too,"she says.
A momma's girl, Soumya confesses that her "mom kept motivating" her to take up a full-fledged career and says she owes it all to her mother who's also a "close friend and confidante".
For this pretty newbie, "being with family and friends, painting, cooking, watching movies" help her unwind. And like most actors she has no "time for love. I'm very much single. Except for a few crushes, I've not had a serious relationship yet," she says. Take a deep breath all you guys out there!
