Want to marry a nice guy: Ratan
Amrita MulchandaniAmrita Mulchandani, TNN | Jun 5, 2011, 12.00am ISTRatan who's among the youngest bahus of prime time television and is probably best known as the fiery Laali in the show Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo was in Ahmedabad to promote her Swayamvar Season 3 - Ratan Ka Rishta.
Considering she's at the peak of her career, what's making her think of getting married, and that too, on national television. "I want to get married. I don't think marriage is a hurdle in one's career. My personal and professional life are different. Even career oriented women get married and continue to work. Why can't I get to do the same?" she asks flashing a radiant smile .
Ratan insists that she is getting married for herself and not just to grab eyeballs or stay in the news. "I really want to settle down with a nice guy and have a healthy relationship," she says.
So does she really plan to get married in the show? After a pause she says, "I think I'll meet my dream man in the show. But that does not mean I will marry just about anyone. I am very choosy about the ideal man. On the show, I have to judge 16 guys and so I am taking it easy. People say there is lot of drama in TV and films but after doing this show I can say that in real life there is more drama. Now I know why there are so many twist and turns in reality shows."
Talking about her parents' approval for the show, she says, "My parents are very supportive of my decision. But you won't get to see them around me all the time as they are not camera friendly. If I get a good partner, they will be happy for me."
In real life, Ratan insists she is "unpredictable, ordinary, positive and not pretentious. I have no regrets, nor do I blame anyone for my losses." There are reports that she's 'stuck up' and she has a bit of an attitude problem. Ratan giggles,"No way! I am not stuck up at all. In fact, I am very easygoing. I am a straightforward girl and not diplomatic enough. So if I dislike something or someone, I am quick to voice my opinions. That might make me unpopular, but I can't handle hypocrites,"she says with a nonchalant shrug.
This petite girl from Patna has lived in several cities, and started off her career in acting via theatre (in Delhi). From theatre to television, is the next step going to be films? Ratan says, "I don't plan anything. If films are supposed to happen, they will. I am sure God must have planned something good for me. If a film producer offers me a good role I will surely take it up. But at the moment I have lots to learn," she says.
