Hey people,
So as usual this forum is packed with numerous posts regarding the characters of DKS contestants, especially DID 1 contestants of course. And there really is no place to discuss the dance performances so I thought I'd make my own thread just for that purpose. Feel free to agree/disagree and join in if interested. This post is to discuss the performances on April 29th.
1) The kids: Totally awesome performance! Seriously the adults just can't match up to these kids man! They have way too much energy and spirit! 👏
2) Amar and Vandana: Honestly, I didn't like this performance at all. I thought these guys completely messed up the style of samba dancing. And I didn't expect that from Amar especially since I have seen him perform the Paso Doble style in DID 2 where he was SO awesome! So I really thought he'd have no trouble getting that poise and stance for this dance right, but for some reason that didn't happen. I guess it was the shoes like Jai mentioned. I don't even know what the heck Vandana was doing! But atleast she maintained her expressions throughout. I was majorly disappointed with Amar because he was actually showing his difficulty with the steps RIGHT on his face!! 😕 At this stage, a dancer just can't be doing that! It's different if you mess up and stuff on stage...that happens. But if you're not even involved in your dance, you're that aloof and careless...to me that is so much worse. Like Jai said, the essence of the dance style was really not there! And the hip movements as well. Samba requires a lot of hip movements...and that goes for the ballroom style as well, not just the carnival style. Really disappointing performance by these guys. I thought Jai's criticism of their performance was much better than the judges even, in this episode! I just found these guys pretty unprofessional with their dancing in this episode.
3) Siddesh and Bhavna: I found the chemistry lacking between these two. It was just a weird pairing. These two should've spent more time together or something to get that chemistry right. I agreed with Remo and Shiamak too about the using the dance floor more with the sweeping across the floor movements. I felt that too. However, these guys still maintained the essence of the dance style so that's a plus. I thought Bhavna was really graceful too. I really love that song though, so I wished it was a better performance.
4) Ruturaj and Vaishnavi: Aww these kids are too cute. Honestly, I don't even feel like comparing the kids with the rest of the gang, because they are just a different league in themselves. This performance was really entertaining too. I liked all the little gimmicks. Cute. :)
5) Jai and Vrushali: Finally we saw these guys pair up again after DID 1! Wohoo! I have such a soft spot for this pairing. 😆 I liked their performance. It was the most professional out of all the ballroom styles done so far with Vrushali and Siddesh's rumba coming close. Their chemistry was awesome. And Jai and Vrushali are just so classy as dancers. I disagreed with Shiamak about Jai's expressions actually because I thought Jai was also flirting with Vrushali pretty well. And it really takes two to make that chemistry work. These two totally got that poise, stance and the character for these dance styles down. Impressive. 😊
6) Alisha vs. Parvez, dance ki takkar: I was really disappointed with Alisha in this episode. I think this girl is just not in her zone man. She seems so underconfident to me. 😕 Which is totally opposite to the Alisha we've seen in DID 1. *sigh* It makes me sad to see Alisha not give her 100%. Anyways, Parvez was as usual awesome and totally entertaining to watch. 😆 He brought a lot of cool moves to the table too. He was definitely the clear winner in this takkar. 👍🏼
7) The Jalwa group performance: Wow, I really liked this performance! 👏 So creative, loved the concept! Good thing these guys have such awesome hip-hop/locking and popping dancers on their team like Parvez, Dharmesh and Ruturaj! I totally loved the Lagaan concept! So creative and apt for a group performance. 😆 Aww too bad that jhanda thing in the end didn't work out, but nevertheless an awesome performance! I thought this was definitely their best group performance so far!
8) The Josh group performance: Ok first, I would really like to appreciate this whole team for bringing out so many different dance styles all the time. These guys really take risks! 👏 Even last week with the Sufi...which I thought was a huge risk to take, and which they should've gotten more appreciation for. And this week too, doing something like bhangra which requires going completely out of your comfort zone and going wild! 😆 So much appreciation for trying new things and taking risks everytime. The performance was enjoyable too. I just have a soft spot for bhangra always, so I was really happy to see a bhangra group performance. Yay! 😆
Ok feel free to agree/disagree and add your own inputs about the performances of this episode. :)
P.S. Random thought: Since I didn't want to make another post for this. But I really think DID 1 dancers are far ahead of DID 2 dancers in terms of the knowledge for the various dance styles both national and international. And I think that's because DID 1 people actually got a lot more exposure to different dance styles than DID 2 people did. DID 1 was more about showcasing the different dance styles and DID 2 was always more about the competition. DID 1 people were always challenged more too, they really had to prove themselves. Whereas DID 2 people mostly stayed within their comfort zones. Especially the people in Terrence's Toli...since I really think Terrence is far ahead of the other two judges in terms of showcasing different dance styles properly and that pure love for dance. But even Terrence in season 2 did not experiment much with his contestants. Except maybe in the beginning. Season 2 was more about showing what you can do best instead of taking risks like season 1.
Anyways, I think for that reason DID 1 dancers are just more exposed to various dance styles, hence they do have more knowledge of these dance styles. That is not to say that DID 2 people aren't good dancers of course...they are exceptional dancers! But they do lack that exposure and training..especially with the ballroom styles.
This is just my neutral point of view by the way. Not trying to put down a certain team or anything like that. I have favourites from both the teams so please don't jump on me or anything like that. Phew, just had to make that clear. 😆
