People still remember this one, yes?

I get that it was played for laughs, but that is what was very wrong with it. They treated the concept of homosexuality like it was a joke. Various things about it, like Pratap calling Shravan a 'adhoora insaan', the idea that gayness could be determined using 'tests', and the way the family treated it like a disgusting disease...it all rubbed me in a very, VERY wrong way.

DJ's have a very poor track record with this. The character of Ramesh (evil MIL's son) early on showed how it was for them.

So I want to ask, what was your reaction to this? What did you think? Were you offended or were you amused?

For me, I was amused by the gay track - pappu & Shravan were too funnyšŸ˜† I think this track was the funniest track in the whole show...Even though I personally am not a gay supporter, (no offense to anyone) this track was definitely funnyšŸ˜†

Keeping funny things aside, they showed as if it is a big crime if you are gay.shravan was seen as a man from mars, that really pissed me.😔 jaiswals over reacted as if shravan committed a sin by being gay.😔.CVs should nt have made this funny.

I agree with you Shalu, they did portray Shravan as really "bad" during the gay trackšŸ˜• But I think that was all the CV"s fault...!!😔

I am going to keep my personal thoughts on homosexuality aside.

I thought the 'gay' track was funny and Barun did a fabulous job acting in it. He was gung-ho and there was no awkwardness in his portrayal of a guy in love with Pappu. Seeing them as a couple was a laugh riot.

What, however, I did find bothersome was how the track exploited every bigoted and stereotypical notion that continues to plague this particular community. Everything that the Jaiswal's found questionable about the relationship was prejudiced. What if for everytime they said 'gay', we put in the word 'untouchable'/'dalit'...how could he be in love with a 'dalit', he is half human, he needs to be fixed so he will not be like them... not so funny anymore, huh.

But, I see this track as moving forward in Hindi serials. It was not so long ago that homosexuality was a crime in the Indian Civil code, so to see it being portrayed, albeit in the safest way possible and wrought with prejudice, is still a step in the right direction.

Okay, I am going to stop preaching now. Sorry, my pov got a little long.😳 šŸ˜•

Anu I agree 100 percent with your post.
I loved the gay track too because of Barun's excellent portrayal . dostana sequel2 is really "Pukka" for him.šŸ˜†
showing this Gay thing - I think started with Kaal ho na ho and the famous Kanta Behn .
After that it has been again and again exploited and misinterpreted in Indian entertainment industry . So I would not blame the CVs of BHPH much for that .
I dont know whether any of you watched the Femina Miss India contest. I was shocked to watch one of the ( last 10 finalists) say that she would slap his son if she found out him to be gay . That is the mentality prevailing in the society.
And India has kept gay - ness in male domain only . You hardly ever come across a lesbians story . The film of Shaban Azmi and Nandita Das was also wrongly conceived. A woman does not become a lesbian when not getting physical attention from husband.
I loved Barun in this song

Apart from being totally funny and hilarious the Gay track indeed raised some ques and thought tp ponder.
Afterall they are also human and need not be ridiculed or treated in such manner that befits some lowly creatures.
Some how I found the DJs and the CVs could have handled this track better and not made it into a slapstick kind of comedy.
But the best part was the top class acting by Barun and Gavrav. Their body language and dialogue delivery and emotions on their face was superb and needs to be praised.

Totally agree with you Maris. Barun & Gaurav's acting was sensational. Though the way the Jaiswal family handled this can be excused - to a certain extent. They just found out that their married son is gay. No wonder they freaked out. Gay test & getting CB actress to seduce Shravan was stupid.

i initially found the track amusing...Barun and Gaurav did a gr8 job in it...and also the family's initial reactions were hilarious...but then i found it a bit too stretched later on...lyk bringing in the gal trying to seduce shravan was a bit disgusting...the track could have been handled better... they were trying to bring in the funny element in the show but i would have personally preferred if they had brought out some serious message through it atleast at its end...
