Another scene from the past which is a striking contrast to the present. Watch the scene first:

Maan is angry with Geet for misleading him for so long by not telling him about her pregnancy before itself. He does not know her entire past and is not interested in knowing it either. Despite his anger, he couldn't send her away. He was worried about her well being. Given her penchant for falling into trouble, he was determined to protect her, even if it meant he would hurt more having her around. It is in this backdrop that this scene is played out.
Maan returns to his bedroom after having a solitary outburst in his bathroom. Geet is on his bed wondering how she can make him listen to her whole story. At that moment Dev who is weighed down by the guilt of what he had done to Geet comes to his brother's room to confess his sins. When Dev tries to enter the room, Maan takes him out of the room and shuts the door so that Dev does not get to see Geet on his bed. At this point he did not know that Dev was the culprit who ruined Geet's life.
In the next scene we see Dadima give a herbal concoction to Geet and offer her a plate of papaya, thinking it would be good for Geet's health, unaware as she was about Geet's pregnancy. Maan surprisingly knows that papaya is not good for pregnant women as does Geet and pounces to have the plate full, much to Dadima's surprise. As though that was not enough he hurriedly gobbles down the second plate of papaya offered to Geet, while Dadima was looking elsewhere. The poor guy is then forced to eat his own breakfast by Dadima who is not aware that the guy is already full with two plates of papaya. When she leaves to bring him his cheese omlette, he exchanges a look with Geet and joins her in laughing at the ridiculousness of the situation, momentarily forgetting his anger.
Encouraged by his whole hearted laugh, Geet is emboldened to try explaining the facts to him. Her hesitant request to try to speak to each other and sort things out snapped him back to the present. He lashes out at her and says it is easy for her to ask him to try but that much more difficult for him to do so. Then comes the most pertinent lines of the scene. He tells her how difficult it is for him to act in front of her every moment. He hates the moment, the lie, the fraud. She asks him back why then was he doing all this. He bites out that he was doing it for her. She is shocked to hear this. He goes on to tell her that he can explain things to his Dadima but then he knows that she is incapable of looking after herself, she needs support and that his support. He tells her how she kept repeatedly asking him not to go away from her in her sleep the previous night.
Geet's eyes fill up in tears when she heard this. Seeing this he warns her not to cry since he cannot bear to see tears in her eyes. He hates her tears. He hates to see her in pain. He then tells her that he hates her, first in English then in Hindi. She looks at him in shock. As if to make himself believe in what he was saying he holds her arms tightly and dragging her up to him he again repeats that he hates her with more force. She knows that he really does not hate her but actually hates himself for loving her so much inspite of everything. So she extends her hand over his cheek tentatively to silently reassure him that she understands his pain and loves him as much as he loves her but he catches her hand midway and pushing it away he leaves the place before he completely loses control of himself.
Current situation:
When Maan heard that Geet had forgiven Dev and that too from the mouth of the very man who had wronged her, he lost his head and accused her of having no self respect, that too in front of Dev. Geet cringed at the humiliation. Maan's behaviour was in a striking contrast to the scene above where even when he was angry with Geet for what he believed to be her deliberate attempt to trap him, he was still mindful of her honour . He took Dev out to speak with him so that Dev does not see Geet on his bed and arrive at wrong conclusions about her character.
Geet is upset with Maan for failing to understand her true feelings. Although she still loves him she is unable to forgive or forget what he said in his anger. As she is lost in her thoughts she dreams of Maan coming near her and holding her cheek much like the way she tried to do in the scene I recounted above. For Maaneet, the cheek holding always meant reassurance. Much like Maan in the earlier scene, she too is not willing to accept that reassurance as she tries to get away from him. She asks him to leave her alone in that semi-trance state. This is in contrast to the scene above where, as Maan said, she was begging him to not leave her alone even in her sleep.
Now he is willing to disguise himself as a menial driver and live a lie for her. He willingly gave up his identity for his Geet. He is masking his feelings in front of everyone. Like in the earlier instance, this time too he knows she needs him although she was not willing to accept it. But there is no arrogance in the knowledge that she needs him for he knows and accepts that he too needs her and for both their sakes he is doing what he normally hates to do.
In the earlier scene even though Maan was angry with Geet, he still ate up her breakfast in order to protect her baby from harm. Here Geet has been starving herself and in the process has become very weak because she has lost the will to live after her husband's outburst.
Inspite of these contrasts there is one thing similar in both the scenes. In the earlier scene, Maan kept repeating that he hates her and trying to convince himself that he does but in reality he merely hated the fact that he loved her so much. In the current situation Geet keeps trying to convince herself that she does not love him and can do without him but in reality she cannot stop loving him nor live without him.
By the way, there is another strange comparison between the scene above and what we'll get to see today.
Maan ate two full plates of papaya in the earlier scene. Although papaya is a healthy fruit, with the maximum enzymes and nutrition, it was not good for Geet in her pregnant condition at the time. Today he is going to get a whole plate of golgappas served to her. Now golgappas do not strictly fall in the category of 'healthy' food and may even border on 'junk' food. But then for Geet who has been mostly starving these days and has become very weak, any food is better than no food. Maan knows that if there is one food she cannot resist, it is the chatpatta golgappas. Hence, Maan ensures that she at least gets her basic calories for the day.
