Geet carefully painted the nail. Finally done, she admired her art work. Painting ones nail should be considered as art. If this is art, it means I studied today, she thought happily.

After the nail polish dried, she brushed her hairs until it shone, she needed a new hairstyle, something different, she decided.

Then, she started going through her clothes. Which one to wear tonight? She finally decided on a blue one. She put it aside to iron it later. She checked time, six hours till maan will come home from office. May be she ought to cook his favourite dish. She needed something to do to pass the time.

As she was going out of room, her eyes fell on one of her course books, she was supposed to study the folded pages. The old dragon, the name geet had given to her tutor lakshmi pabarkar, was suppose to come in evening. So, she still had 3 hours, first she will make maan's favourite dish, then, study and then, later take a bath and start getting ready.

At least that was what geet had planned but she found herself sitting with the old dragon 15 minutes later.

Lakshmi peered at geet from the top of her glasses, then stared at geet's written answer through her glasses. Geet nervously looked at the carpet. Then, peeked at the dragon.

She saw that dragon calmly took out a pen from her purse,removed the cap, put it on table, then drew a big cross on register, then wrote a big zero on the top of page. Then, she recapped the pen and put it down on the table.

Only then, she looked at geet who quickly looked down at the carpet.

There was pin drop silence in the room.

Lakshmi,''do you remember I told you to study chapter 1.''

geet nodded.

Lakshmi,''did you study.''

geet,'' I was going to study but you came early.''

lakshmi,''you thought you will be able to do whole chapter in 2 hours? Even if you had started last night, you would have only been able to do half chapter.''

geet,''then, why did you gave me so much?''

lakshmi,''to check your knowledge. I am sure if you have bothered to open your book even once the whole year, you would have known how long is this chapter. Even the back benchers at least know about the first chapter.''

geet felt a bit ashamed.

Lakshmi,''show me your nails?''

geet slowly showed them.

Lakshmi smiled sarcastically but said nothing.

Suddenly geet felt more insulted then ever in her life. What was wrong with painting ones nails?

Lakshmi picked up the book and ignoring geet's mutinous expression, opened the first chapter.

''I will explain only once, and you better listen.'' with that geet's first lesson started.

'......................5 hours later...................

geet handed the question paper back to lakshmi. She put it on a pile containing geet's previous answers. After every topic, geet was given a small question to solve. Lakshmi marked what looked to geet as half the book and put it on table. ''read this.''

geet looked miserably at pile of books she was suppose to study till tomorrow. How was she going to do it? And the old dragon can drop in at any time tomorrow, she had been hinting that she was an early riser and geet was afraid, she might come even before geet woke up.

Geet opened and closed her crammed hands. She had to solve each question within 5 minutes and having big nails didn't help in writing fast.

How long was old dragon going to stay, geet looked at time and gasped, only 45 minutes left till maan was coming home. Nothing was ready, neither her clothes or her hairs, aghhhh.

Lakshmi looked at geet's face who suddenly looke she was about to start crying. Lakshmi sighed girls these days, so emotional. This girl was a gonner, she won't be able to study now.

Lakshmi cleared her throat and rose to her feet. ''this is all for today but I want good response from you tomorrow.''

geet nodded and muttered bye and nearly ran out of room towards stairs. Behind her Lakshmi shook her head in disapproval at the way geet was blindingly running.

'................................2 days later................................................

geet brushed her hairs while reading the book, she paused while brushing the hairs and underlined a sentence, then again started brushing her hairs.

'..........................2 weeks later..........................

geet chewed on her nail absently. Wasn't the answer suppose to be 1? she recalculated still 0.984. she was doing something wrong.

'......................4 weeks later...........................

Maan checked the account file again to make sure nothing was wrong. Satisfied, he looked up at geet sitting on floor books spread out around her studying. Her hairs looked she hadn't brushed them for days. She looked cute, he decided.

'...................6 weeks later.................

maan woke up at a sound and peered out in the dark. Geet was sitting on the study table with table lamp on. Maan checked the time 3 a.m. He laid back again and put a pillow on the head.

'..................8 weeks later.............................

4 a.m.

Maan put a struggling geet on the bed and laid on the bed and took her in his arms.

Maan,''geet don't test my patience. You got to sleep damn it. 2-3 hour sleep won't kill you.''

geet,''maan please just one chapter to go.''

Maan,''no.''

'...................10 weeks later................

geet fluffed up her pillow a bit and laid down again. She tossed and turned but couldn't sleep. She looked at maan who had his head under pillow.

Geet,''maan.''

maan,''hmm.''

geet,''what if I failed the test?''

maan angrily sat up and glared at geet.'' then, it doesn't matter, its not your finals and I am sure you will pass and for the record I am answering this question 15^th time.''

geet laughed nervously,''you are counting my question.''

maan threw himself back at the bed and after few moments slipped into a light snooze.

Geet,''you are sure nah maan, you are not saying just to make me happy.''

maan muttered darkly,''geeeet.''

'...............................2 months later................................

geet came happily out of the examination hall. She was sure, she will pass the paper was so easy. The old dragon was not that bad, she knew what she was teaching.

Students around her dragged their feet, some complained loudly while others were talking quietly but everyone was saying same thing. It came out of course. One said, I am not sure, I will pass. What was examiner thinking?..........
