Neha Mehta: Acting is my first love
Buzz up! | |||
Kavita Awaasthi/Hill Road Media Neha Mehta returns to television and serials after a break of a year post her marriage. Happy to be back, Neha claims to have got the best of both worlds. She is glad to get a substantial role in Imagine's Beend Banuga Ghodi Chadhunga and yet isn't the lead so doesn't need to shoot 24x7.

Tell us about your role in Beend Banuga Ghodi Chadhunga? The show is a family drama with out and out negative shades of any character. They are all like real, normal people. I have been promised a meaty role of a dutiful bahu Garima, who strives to be the ideal bahu in the family, as her sasuma Santosh played by Nausheen wants her to take charge of the house. Garima tries hard to achieve her goals and live upto her expectations, but at times falters. The show is character driven like for example Humlog was. It revolved around many characters and each story was important and focused upon. Beend too has many talented actors playing important characters. Of course, there is a lead couple which gets more importance but the other characters are pivotal too. |
After Mamta, you took on yet another soft spoken woman's role. What was the reason for choosing this role? I always loved doing roles that were different from the ones I did in the past. I started with Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand, then I did Ayushman where I played an intern, in Mamta I played a surrogate mother, did a historical serial and others too. Basically, all my roles have been different. I like it that way. I like to experiment with the genre, role and importance in the serial. Garima is a lovely role and I am glad to be part of this family drama.

Tell us about your marriage and life while you took a break? I took a break for a year post my marriage. I wanted to enjoy my marriage celebrations, and martial bliss without stress. It was wonderful. My honeymoon went on for three months as my husband and I travelled a lot. Then, he decided it was time to return to work, so we came back. Soon I realised I was bored sitting at home. That was when I decided to look for work again. Beend happened at just the right time. The role is perfect for me because not only does it give me a prominent role, which satisfies me work wise, but also I am not shooting 18 hours and 30 days a month. I didn't want to work so hard. I wanted flexibility and I am glad to have found that in this show. I am very happy to be in this serial. |
Why do you think tv producers are obsessed with marriage as in every show we have a marriage followed by variation to the couple's married life ? happy, forced, love, revenge? I guess they cater to Indian audiences and keeping a family audience and the youth in mind- a marriage, a love story in variety of themes, is a good bet. You can bring in any emotion depending on your story. Marriage brings in masala to the plot perhaps.

How is your rapport with Nausheen? Totally cool. She is a chilled out person and we all chat, play games and Uno a lot during our breaks. It is a fantastic unit and we have fun working. She is superb as a co star too. |
How did it feel to return to work? Fabulous. I actually felt like I was home. That feeling is divine. When they put makeup on me, I was emotional. It felt great after a long time. |
What does television mean to you? Television means the world to me as I am working for my passion. I love acting and serials give me job satisfaction. I make new friends, meet old ones, work hard and have fun. I am very attached to tv, as it gives me a creative outlet like no other medium and for any actor, acting is their first love. Tv and acting is mine |
