Had harshita been a son, the parents behaviour towards her would be same? Harshita getting a raw deal not only coz she is a step child...also becoz she is a gal.. I feel so...what you guys think? The behaviour towards child in this case was affected drastically coz of the gender..

hmm..that's something to ponder over. I didn't think that the sex of the child could have played an important role in shaping the prejudice, but now that you've mentioned it, it might have had something to do with it afterall.

Possible..... because if this woman and especially the man (it's his own daughter with his suicidal wife) encourage ill treatment of this little kid.... may be they have preferring issue of a boy child over girl...... i.e they are too mean, so thr meanness might be covering this subject too....

Difficult to say, there have been plenty of examples of stepmums hating the stepson because he is competition to their own son also.... The primary problem here seems to be the ''step'' bit, Sunita probably thinks of her family as herself, hubby and son, and poor Harshita is an interloper to her.... Of course the father might have taken more of an interest if it was a son !

Very true atria, father would have taken more interest if it was a son for sure.....And bcoz of this even mom's attitude towards her would have been little mild...In the current situation, the father's negligence towards gal has contributed in boosting mothers biased attitude.

I don't believe it has anything to do with gender. Completely the case of step mom like Cindrella's mom and a dad too obsessed with his own stuffed toy!!
