When I was younger, I used to LOVE everything about bollywood. Almost every actor, and watch every single film that came out.

Today, I cant even remember the last bollywood movie I watched. I think it was Phas Gaye Re Obama (highly recommended btw). And mostly I keep up with it coz of Kareena and Saif. (I think that's the only part that's stayed stuck. Bebo, lol)
But in general, I've been thinking why my passion for bollywood has gone down the past 2 to 3 years. Is it coz the movies back in the day were just better? Or is it the lack of good talent today?
And I realize, its neither. And in fact, atleast in today's time, you have makers like Vishal Bharadwaj attempting something interesting each time rather than just recycling ideas and shoving them down our throats.
I think I just outgrew bollywood movies. I dont think I can go back and watch those 90s flicks again and enjoy them. There comes a point when you watch so much of the same thing, it just becomes meh.
I think 7 Khoon Maaf is the only bollywood movie that has me quite intrigued in the past year or two. And that is sad, considering how many movies come out in a year.
What do you guys think? What has your bollywood experience been?

Yeah I feel the same way. I have started losing interest in bollywood films that now I turned to watch more hollywood films. Usually on the weekend it's bollywood films that I watch, but now I turn to hollywood films for entertainment...mainly because bollywood films are not interesting anymore. The only film am excited about is Agent Vinond. Considering the director makes interesting films like Jonnny Gadar and EHT. And plus bebo is in that one! Hopefully AV doesn't disappoint me!

Yeah Sriram, Vishal B, Anurag, these are the makers that truly make something interesting you know.
And no, I dont count Johar's attempts at doing something different like MNIK. I know for a fact that the W*F moments will be too much for me.

Honestly I have started hating bollywood a lot, its becoming so boring and annoying.

Be it the repeating comedy movies or the so called hard hitting directors who make a movie on every damm single social issue and think in this way their movies will be masterpieces or all the copy which goes on from hollywood.

I really badly miss the old bollywood movies specially the black and white once.

When I started watching a lot of these contemporary bollywood movies my parents told me that hindi cinema is becoming a joke because all they do is going shoot in glamorous places out side india and u do not see much realistic movies from India which shows what India relly represents.

The last movie I really loved watching about India was Slumdog Millionare i know a lot celebs was pissed the way Indians was showed, but I think they were too overreacting because its the truth that the poor people live like that and not like the srks, salmans etc..

Its irritating when actresses plays NRI role then mostly they get it wrong they should simply stop portraying NRI roles because most of the time they create some very offensive stereotypes of NRI's.

Also the media etc.. is becoming bakwas, people are more interested in gossip of celebs then watching their movies, just shows how bad bollywood is becoming.

I miss the days where we had simple indian movies, which represented indian values and didn't make copy movies of hollywood.

I definitley have watched fewer movies over the last 2-3 years when I've always been an avid movie buff. My dad was a die hard fan he's left me moves from the 50's to 80's (like 500 or so on VHS) and over the years I've added to his collection.

When my dad was alive and after his death my family watched moveis together. When the VCR first came out my dad bought it for $1800 (fotune back then) and all his friends would come over to watch movies. Then came mom then me and well it became more of a family time so only the three of us would be watching them and we had good quality times where I can openly laugh and cry. Even when the romantic songs or parts came they were done in such a good way that they were tasteful and didn't have a need to fast forwrd to skp the chapter/song. Majority of the movies from way back were watchable with families (elders and young kids). Lately there's more movies with OTT exposing and kissing that its kinds of awkward watching them with family or friends. A lot of the songs are nice but the way they are picturized I gotta skip them without getting embarrased. If the song and movie demands it then yeah a little bit is alright but it's OTT with most movies.
I can defintley watch the older movies over and over again with the newbies theres only a handful that I've seen.
The moveis these days try to be so much like hollywood movies I don't mind them trying to adapt the graphics and sound effects but why loose the indian touch. Love the hatke movies like Lafingay Parinday which was different from what we see lately and a good movie to watch with anyone.
Also these days whenever two people are working toghether they are linked. There are so many link ups and break ups that I just tune it out and don't want to follow it more.

I dont really mind the intimacy tbh. I'm just askign for some originality, and a solid script. Is that too much to ask?

I was never fond of bollywood movies, I must have seen like 1 movie a year when I was younger. Now I watch 5-6 movies a year and those are the ones that lack substance. I cant stand standard bollywood movies and I doubt I ever will.

The only thing that kept be connected with bollywood is the music (I love it) and of course, now it's India Forums 😊

That I gotta agree with. Its the music that's truly addictive!

And really, the only reason I keep up with it is simpy coz of Kareena, even though I LOVE Saif. But its really Bebo holding me down.
Call it a sort of habit that I've grown up wtih since I was 11. Tomorrow when Kareena exits btown, I think that woudl probably be it for me and bollywood as well, lol

I have out grown Bollywood in the sense that I dont like the romcoms churned out these days....
Otherwise..Yeah I definitely watch lesser movies now compared to my teens....
But definitely I do like the off beat films which are coming out and the small budget films by new filmmakers...
We have had some amazing ones in the last couple of years like Bheja fry, A Wednesday, Udaan etc..
