To an extent, yes, Bollywood is loosing its charm/appeal, mostly for its [failed] attempt at copying Hollywood. It's quite sad to see Bollywood trying to desperately to make their films 'westernized' by adding some random smooching scenes or showcasing some foreign locales - as though the only thing that differentiates Bollywood from Hollywood is the locales and amount of clothes one wear. I don't think Bollywood needs to change its tune and style so fast - there just isn't any need of it. Especially since the culture of India (and by extension, of most South Asian countries) is so different from the western culture, copying western movies doesn't really make sense to me. This 'wannable' attitude is what pisses me off mostly. The movies of the 90s weren't anything extraordinary either, but they were at least true and felt real, which is more than what can be said for any these recent films.

And I honestly don't see the fixation with comedy films. I am not, was never one, and most likely would never be able to appreciate comedy or even satire (thanks to the wonderful movies like No Entry). I understand that after a hard day of work, people want and need escapism - but doesn't the same humors get boring and monotonous after a while? I like movies based on escapism (well, who doesn't?) but not to the extent that my brain falls apart and I accept anything for a good little laugh.

Anyway, as for the original topic, I was never a movie buff. Used to watch Bollywood movies every now and then in the past, but now no longer do it (except for watching old movies of some specific actresses or a few good movies here and there). Something seems to have gone wrong; not sure if it is the films/industry or if it is me.

I wish there were award functions like the Academy Award which focuses more on the artistic value and technical levels of filmmaking rather than the Box Office revenue. On that way, we can at least get to know about the films. Like I wait for the Academy Award every year not only because of the award itself, but also because of the list of movies I get to know through it.

I use to be such a huge fan of bollywood movies. The films were so entertaining back than. Now, every week the films that come out are disappointing. The film am looking forward to right now that is coming out shortly are TWM and Game. TWM has that JWM vibe...so am really looking forward to the film even though Kangana ruins it with her acting in the parts I have seen in the trailer. And Game is a thriller and I enjoy this genre. Hopefull the twist and turns are not stupid and take their audience's intelligence for granted *caugh* Dhoom 2 lol

yes I have outgrown bollywood. like you still stay in touch for kareena, I do the same for aamir. otherwise, nothing interests me anymore.

my reasons are different. the same passion I saw in bollywood in the 90's and early 2000's are gone. new "talent" are coming in with their so-called western movies and it is pissing me off. bollywood is trying too hard to be western. the types of trailers I see coming out these days make me laugh and cringe with pain. these people try so hard to be western, yet they fail every time!! I do not get WHAT is the need to be western. india has its own unique culture also...why not make use of it?

I LOVED the 90's and early 2000's. the best of bollywood right there.

I guess out of the current trailers that show on my tv, only tanu weds manu interest me.

edit

but the senior actors in bollywood are doing a good job. it is the new ones that are irritating me a lot.

i'd say yes... i don't know what it is... maybe i'm just too old now, to appreciate the new movies churned out... there are such few movies i would rewatch again... the only one that i have given a second watch so far is tere bin laden... that was such a cute movie... other than that, i am rather bored of the movies that are churned out... just doesn't hold my interest like the movies in the earlier days used to....
so yes, i'm still stuck in the 70's, as far as bollywood is concerned....! 😳

Yes a tad .. though I think the number of movies I watch now has grown compared to before.
I dunno what it was about all those movies in the 90's and early 2000's that I really enjoyed watching which I probably wouldn't ever watch again today. But the amount of crappy movies that are released is just ridiculous! I hate the re-makes and the sequels annd the same old boring stuff we see in like every other movie that's released.
I don't think I'll ever fully outgrow it where I'll stop watching bollywood movies

Used to be a huge fan of bollywood, but not anymore, well, I still love bollywood just not really satisfied .. I barely watch any now, mostly remakes very boring n very predictable n I hate remakes, I really do, I was so angry first when Kajol n Kareena decided to make Stepmom, I mean what's the point? why not try something new, but its not up to me is it? still I liked that movie for them .. however, it is really like bollywoods lost it's charm! still love to know about my fav stars, so I try to keep in touch.. n hopefully something will change.. who knows!

I don't really enjoy bollywood movies the way I used to. I like the 90s-mid 2000s movies. and i wish they go back to those days. I can't remember the last recent b-wood movie i watched... i think it was 3 idiots or paa. 😕
they just don't have the right storylines. to be completely honest most of the time i only look forward to srk, n sallu's movies. and back in the day i watched evry movie that came out.... good ol' days
