"Mmm." Geet lifted her chin a little. "Ye Annie ke bhai hain, iska matlab ye nahi ki ye yahan par ghumte rahen and logon to dekhte rahen."
"Well what do you expect?" he said, volume now on a high. "Do you think I was going to stand in line with a bunch of giggling, silly women to have a romance novel autograph? Maan Singh Khurana can never do that. Not in this lifetime."
"Uh-oh," Pari muttered.
Uh-oh, Maan thought, that had not been a brilliant thing to say.
Fury was building in Geet like a storm, gaining momentum, ready to explode. Eyes that were calm were filled with daggers ready to strike him. The flush on her cheeks were caused by anger.😡
She was absolutely sensational.😲(maan n thinking like this😲)
"You'..you'." Geet sputtered.
"Wait'whoa'stop'," Maan said. He quickly raised his hands in a gesture of peace. "That didn't sound right. What I meant to say is'." Think Maan!😕 He was a breath away from being murdered! "A man, any man is out of his league in a large gathering of women. It's overwhelming, you know what I mean?"(Even he didn't know what he meant.😕) "I was nervous, shaking." (Like that is ever gonna happen, with a slight smile on his face.😆)
"Like hell," Geet said, narrowing her eyes.
Maan's smile faded. "I didn't mean that. Anyways, I'm sure your book is great, really wonderful. I like romance. Hell, I love romance. I'm a very romantic guy. Really. You can ask any woman I've ever ' cancel that." (OMG what are you doing Maan)
"Mr. Khurana," Geet said.
"Maan. Call me Maan. Look I'm in awe of anyone writing a book and get it published. I'd appreciate it if you would autograph the copy of your book for Annie. Having your new novel to read will take her mind off worrying about the babies."
"Listen, I'll read the book myself cover to cover. I'm sorry if I insulted you. I stressed out because of all the women here, that's all. Would you please sign the book?"
(The MSK saying sorry and please, that too on the first day, on the first meeting😲)😆
"Oh Babaji," Geet thought. Maan Singh Khurana didn't play fair. There was a genuine sincerity in his voice, and she knew without a doubt that he loved his sister very much.
Ever since she and Annie had become friends, Geet was aware that the Khuranas were a close knit, devoted to each other family. She use to always wonder if her family who '
"Geet?" Maan said.
"Yes, of course," she said smiling. "I'd be happy to autograph Anvesha's book."
"Thank God," Pari said, looking upward. She hurried to get the book then shoved it to Geet's hands. "Write."
Geet sat behind the counter and did as instructed. A minute later she held out the book to Maan.
"There you go," she said, "I hope Anvesha enjoys it. Please tell her that I'll come visit her very soon."
"Thanks," he said taking the novel from her hand.
(Kya baat hai Thanks bhi.)😳
Again their eyes met, and again neither moved, nor breathed. Currents of sensuality seemed to go down in both of them, drawing them closer, even though they were standing far. Their heart beats started to increase.
"Well, I'." Pari started.
"What!" Geet and Maan both jerked at the sound of Pari's voice and the moment was gone.
Placing one hand over her heart, Pari said, "All I was going to say is that we're finished here and you can go home and relax, Geet. I wish I could drop you but I have to go to a Business meeting."
"I'll call a taxi," Geet said while getting up, "Tum itni chinta mat karo, Pari."
"I'd be happy to give you a lift and take you home, Miss'." Maan paused. "Geet."
"On no, a taxi will be fine, Mr. Khurana. Thank you," she said, not looking a him.
"Maan. Please accept my offer of a ride. It will make up for my frightening you, you know as a 'stalker'. At least now I know I can 'skulk' in case the need arises, I'll drive you home. Right? Right. That's settled. Let's go."
"Good idea," Pari said. "There's nothing to worry about Geet. We know Anvesha, Maan is Anvesha's brother, and that's good enough for me. It's fine enough for you too, but you are too tired to realize it."
"But--" Geet began, but no one paid any attention to her.
"Geet came here right from the airport," Pari informed Maan. "Her luggage is in the back room. I'll let you out so that you can bring your car."
"But--" Geet tried again.
"Got it." Maan said, going out towards the car.
"Fine," Geet said, throwing her hands in defeat, "Whatever."
Once the door was locked behind Maan and Geet, Pari hurried to the telephone and called Annie.
"It was touch and go, Annie," Pari said breathlessly, "but I did it. Maan is as we speak, driving Geet home. Goodness, your brother. Anyways, so far, so good'..well, providing Geet uska murder naa kar de ghar pahuchne se pehle. Now then tomorrow I will'."
