Saali Re, Gaali Re: Bollywood actresses are having fun using cuss words

By Joginder Tuteja, February 9, 2011 - 14:11 IST

Gone are the times when beeps filled the auditorium whenever there was cuss word spoken on screens. With Censor board giving some liberty to filmmakers and allowing them to express themselves in the way they wish, there is marked change in the way dialogues are being mouthed by actors. It is not just men who are indulging in some cuss words today; even women are going the whole hog as can be seen in some of the recent releases or the award ceremonies.

Says an actor on condition of anonymity, "Seems like all these gorgeous B town women are in mood to have some fun, what with all the 'gaali-galauj' they are doing not just on screen but also in public. Priyanka Chopra, whom I have always considered to be this one sophisticated young woman, was so unabashed in this recent award ceremony that I saw. What a hoot she was with all her smartly camouflaged 'gaalis' and that too right on stage in front of hundreds of guests and millions of TV viewers. It could have been embarrassing but she made it all seem like fun."

As is known, Kareena Kapoor was the one who actually started it all in Golmaal 3 where she indulged in some smartly camouflaged cuss words in her own sweet and innocent manner. However, someone who wasn't so sweet and innocent with her language was Vidya Balan who shocked one and all when she went all out in Ishqiya.

"Not to mention Rani Mukherjee who looked at West for her choice of cuss words in No One Killed Jessica", he continues, "I guess everyone is just joining the fray sans any regret. Call it the demand of the script but look at the way characters in Yeh Saali Zindagi. It seemed all real life and while it is difficult to imagine something like this allowed on screen till two years back, the fact is that it was all cleared by Censors this time around."

No wonder, women too aren't willing to be left behind and going the whole hog. Who would be the next to join the fray? Well, that would have to be seen. However, for audience it is sheer fun to see them giving all men-folk a run for their money!

I love Rani's fierce attitude in the movie. The script demanded it and she was bang on!

BUT she needs to take it one step down. Everywhere she goes I keep hearing statements where she says "I'm a *****." And really its getting annoying now.

Females are the respected lot in the industry. We give so much respect to them. I know that cussing and swearing has become the norm now, but if these actresses continue to do that off screen they are setting off a bad example. I know that we all are used to accepting the guys of the industry to do it. Therefore we don't say much and are quite partial in our views.

If a script demands it, then go for it. But outside the screen I don't deem it necessary from them to start cussing and swearing all the time. Again I know we're partial towards the guys of our industry and don't care if they say it. Idk. I guess that's how our society is. Women are looked down upon if they cuss, swear, drink, smoke, or do anything that the guys can do and get away with. That's just how our society is.

As for Priyanka if she did that at an award ceremony shame on her.

Again if a script demands it then I'm ok with it. But they shouldn't carry it on in their real life away from the camera.

rani's characterization in the movie was way overdone....she dosent need to swear in every sentence, and call herself a bi*** like a million times to project herself as a liberated, bindaas woman....it seemed very gimmicky....u know like "oh look, i swear, call myself a bi*** and have premarital sex...tht makes me so fiesty and bindaas"...they need not have been so explicit about her "bindaas-ness"...is there no such thing as subtlety these days?
