So, I acutally don't quite remember what I was wanting to write in those days, but I've tried a bit.. hope whosoever reads this, will like the chapter! 😊
Chapter 14:
Prats reached office and resumed work. Today the workload was a bit less. Her colleagues had started coming, Prats talked to everyone and enjoyed working with her wonderful colleagues. It was 5:30pm and Varun told Prats – hey 5:30 ho gaya, ghar nahi jana
Pratigya told him what the real cause was. Prats thought that Varun might make fun of her family that they were such narrow-minded, but surprisingly he didn't. Pratigya finished her work at 6:15 and rose to inform the pm but Varun stopped her.
Varun – kaam ho gaya ye batane ja rahi ho na?
Pratigya – ha, aur kya!
V – paagal ho kya? Abhi bata dia, to aur kaam mil jayega, fir pakka late ho jaogi, half n hr k baad jaana, kuch work mile to bolna ki 7 to bajne wale hain, ab kal karungi
Prats was surprised. 'But, this isn't right!'
V – ok, jao, mat mano meri baat
Prats made a face; she didn't know what to do but then decided that she should be honest. She came back from the pm's desk and tried escaping Varun's gaze. But Varun had already started to laugh like mad!
V – kya hua madam? Ab aap aur kaam karengi na?
Prats kept mum, she was regretting not following his advice.
V – aur is saal ka honesty award milta hai Miss Pratigya Saxena ko
People sitting around them looked at them and giggled. Pratigya was already in tension of becoming late and here was Varun still enjoying. But then he became serious and inquired about the work that she had been given. Varun saw the project and exclaimed, 'hey this is my project that you have to test. Don't worry, you won't get late, I'll work with you and make sure you leave on time'
Prats was very grateful to him and also said sorry for going to the pm when he stopped her.
V – I knew this is ur 1st job and u don't know these things. It is common in this office; you have to work as much as they give, so forget honesty and be practical.
The next 40 mins, Varun left his own work and he alongwith Pratigya completed her work and she was ready to submit it to the pm. The pm was impressed by her work and praised her. Prats wanted to but couldn't tell the pm that it was Varun who had helped her but she resolved that she would help him when he needed help from her. She remembered his liking for aaloo paranthas and decided to bring them atleast once a week for him.
Pratigya had studied in a girl's school and her college wasn't also co-ed so she didn't have any male friends, it was the 1st time she had interacted with a guy so freely. Earlier she thought that boys made friendship with girls only with the motive of timepass or love and she was still living in the 'Maine Pyar Kia' era where a boy and a girl could never be 'just friends'. But today, she felt she had found a good friend in Varun.
Prats left on time, Aadarsh had told her that he'll be there at 7 for her and so he was. The brother sister duo was tired after the day's work. On the way home, Pratigya told Aadarsh about her day and the convo led to Varun. Aadarsh instantly stopped his bike and looked back at Prats seriously.
A – pratigya, I know that in office you will have male colleagues and some of them will be worth friendship but you don't have to talk about them at home, do u get me?
P – why? What happened?
A – don't u understand? If mummy, papa or dadi come to know that you sit beside a boy in your office and you praise him as you did just now, then don't u understand what they will think and say? I studied in a co-ed but u and aarushi were always sent in a girl's school, why? So that u girls stay away from boys. Even my friends aren't allowed 'inside' the house! And here you will tell them that you spend more than 7 hours of your day sitting and talking with a boy… no one will ever understand!
Pratigya listened in silence. She knew her brother was right. It was twice in a single day that she had learnt there were things in life that needed to be be hidden.
Meanwhile at home, Dadi was constantly keeping an eye on the watch. But, Aadarsh drove fast and they reached on time.
