Quick Take for December 13, 2010 - Monday

Just watched the episode live and thought I would share some quick thoughts before doing a more detailed one which may or may not happen given my being on vacation...😊. Here's a quick run-down of what stood out for me:

Gaurav - Vidya:

The episode started exactly where Friday ended with Vidya hiding a flower behind her back. After some initial hesitant expressions, Gaurav places the rose in Vidya's hair. I liked this scene but felt that Dakssh's smile while confessing he had never placed a flower in anybody's hair before was more his own rather than that of Gaurav the character!

The follow-up scene of Gaurav teaching Vidya English was nice in a cutesy kind of way! Again...I felt Dakssh was slipping out of Gaurav and in to Dakssh intermittently! Finally, I liked the Uttara - Vidya interaction that finished this scene as it shows Vidya slowly building relationships with each member of the family!

Uttara - Rishabh:

Uttara is in wedding planning mode as the wedding planner arrives. Rishabh packs them off to the Jhaakars and then ponders calling Rastogi! This calm phase has gone on for a while. Got to admit, I am getting impatient to see how and what specifically will trigger the next abuse cycle.

Priya - Devyani - Aditya

The scene started with Aditya coming in looking angry that Brahmanand had not met Priya as he had promised. This is one of the few times I have seen RaQesh emote anger and it was a pleasant change from the lover-boy avataar he is in most of the time.

Priya then comes to the Jhaakars and expresses her inability to marry Aditya due to the differences in their statuses and the expectations of a lavish wedding that she feels her middle-class family would not be able to fulfill. I have to say, I loved the screenplay for this scene...for most part! Priya's explanation of their situation was very believable and well sketched for a short scene. The character detailing was also spot on in Aditya's dismissive lover-boy reaction that Devyani interrupts with her "motherly" understanding of Priya's predicament! However, I did not like the Jagi - Imli interaction at the end of this scene...felt very over-the-top.

Pradhans - Jhaakars

This final sequence of today was well done but did not resonate with me as I felt like a bridge scene was missing between Priya leaving Aditya's college in Friday's episode and landing up at the Jhaakars in today's one. That bridge scene would have served as a good basis for today's plot. The concerns that Priya raised at the Jhaakars are legitimate ones that a lot of families face and it would have been nice to see father and daughter having that conversation. I did however like Chinu & Mr. Pradhan having a heated discussion prior to the arrival of the Jhaakars. It made up slightly for the lack of the bridge scene.

Mr. Pradhan's assertion that he had managed to find a way to make it work did not feel right! I felt like the writers/creative team added that to give them the ability to throw a lavish wedding that will garner the TRPs. It was a nice touch though to have the screenplay show Mr. Pradhan honestly accepting to Devyani what bothered him...such as having the wedding in Rohatak...and indicating he had made peace with it!

Overall: Good episode.

Yesterday dont know IF was not allowing me to post any of my replies.

Jaya, loved your analysis. I also felt that Priya should have had a word with her dad before reacting in a haste. There should have been a scene with Priya seeing him all hyper and worked up, which later forces her to speak it with Aditya and his family. Well..

I liked the episode.. a much needed episode to clear many things regarding the character. Like Priya's.. she's the one who has a clear heart and doesn't believe in beating around the bush. With much simplicity and frankness, she shared her problem that was eating her up, without a tinge of embarrassment that her father could not give them a big, fat wedding, to both Aditya and her to-be mom-in-law. I felt this scene was the best in the whole episode.

Another dialogue that I liked here was Devyani saying that her husband's job is like a 'saut' to her! Now, last time when she said this line, he was sleeping with a lady and that dialogue proved to be true. Yesterday, when she said the same line, it meant his connection with Priya and his demanding behaviour towards his family cuz of his duty.

Vidya- Gaurav scenes are delightful to watch and I liked this one as well.. Gaurav confessing that he'd never put the flower before and Vidya's admiration of how beautiful it looks on her.. her stint in learning English and Guarav's efforts in making her get the right diction😆 Uttara taunting Vidya initially was quite a normal reaction.. of elder D-I-L trying to outbeat her devrani by getting well-versed in English! So,I liked the reality touch there as well. 👍🏼Insecurites between SIL is quite common but Vidya is too innocent for such thoughts.. maybe we see her insecurity after Priya enters their house and Gaurav consoling her that she's different from all.

Dont know but Priya's dad has a funny english accent.😆 I'd observed this before but thought it was some grouse from my side.

Overall a good episode. Ridhi stood out in the episode. 👏

Just watched today's episode. Very mixed feelings. Certain sequences were over-the-top while others were very well done.

Come on Maryaada writers...your work thus far has made me believe that you are capable of so much more than this! 🤔

Hope to be back later with a more detailed analysis.

Overall: Above-average but not my kind of episode.

Shreya...good take chica! While watching the episode, I was trying to recall when Devyani had referred to Brahmanand's job as her Saut before...thanks to you I know now.

Mr. Pradhan has a very typical academician type style of speaking English...at least it reminds me of a lot of my professors from my undergrad days. In one of the threads from the last few weeks, somebody talked about the different dialects in the show...got to go see who that was. Maybe she has a view on it.

Hey everyone,

Sorry me was out for a couple of days. Just caught Maryada today after a long time, and I loved today's episode. Why?

1) I loved the Pradhan family interaction. Very very realistic. The dad dialogue about "Cant I even plan this much for my daughter?", Chinu's sweater goof-up. Priya and Cheenu arguing over the ILU and the kiss :) I havent seen such a detailed portrayal of family interactions before.

2) Aditya-Priya scene. Very very well done. I am sure every couple has these questions and arguments, especially women who have had problems due to violation of personal privacy.

3)Aditya-Gaurav scene. I liked the way they portrayed the whole advice dole out session with Vidya in the background, for her to mistakenly assume that Gaurav is pursuing her romantically.

4)Uttara-Rishabh scene. Hint of the coercion and abuse to follow soon. I wonder how Uttara will react.

Which brings me to: that old promo with Uttara and Brahmanand during karva-chaut, was that symbolic or did it happen??

Overall I enjoyed it 😊
