Quick Take for December 13, 2010 - Monday
Just watched the episode live and thought I would share some quick thoughts before doing a more detailed one which may or may not happen given my being on vacation...😊. Here's a quick run-down of what stood out for me:
Gaurav - Vidya:
The episode started exactly where Friday ended with Vidya hiding a flower behind her back. After some initial hesitant expressions, Gaurav places the rose in Vidya's hair. I liked this scene but felt that Dakssh's smile while confessing he had never placed a flower in anybody's hair before was more his own rather than that of Gaurav the character!
The follow-up scene of Gaurav teaching Vidya English was nice in a cutesy kind of way! Again...I felt Dakssh was slipping out of Gaurav and in to Dakssh intermittently! Finally, I liked the Uttara - Vidya interaction that finished this scene as it shows Vidya slowly building relationships with each member of the family!
Uttara - Rishabh:
Uttara is in wedding planning mode as the wedding planner arrives. Rishabh packs them off to the Jhaakars and then ponders calling Rastogi! This calm phase has gone on for a while. Got to admit, I am getting impatient to see how and what specifically will trigger the next abuse cycle.
Priya - Devyani - Aditya
The scene started with Aditya coming in looking angry that Brahmanand had not met Priya as he had promised. This is one of the few times I have seen RaQesh emote anger and it was a pleasant change from the lover-boy avataar he is in most of the time.
Priya then comes to the Jhaakars and expresses her inability to marry Aditya due to the differences in their statuses and the expectations of a lavish wedding that she feels her middle-class family would not be able to fulfill. I have to say, I loved the screenplay for this scene...for most part! Priya's explanation of their situation was very believable and well sketched for a short scene. The character detailing was also spot on in Aditya's dismissive lover-boy reaction that Devyani interrupts with her "motherly" understanding of Priya's predicament! However, I did not like the Jagi - Imli interaction at the end of this scene...felt very over-the-top.
Pradhans - Jhaakars
This final sequence of today was well done but did not resonate with me as I felt like a bridge scene was missing between Priya leaving Aditya's college in Friday's episode and landing up at the Jhaakars in today's one. That bridge scene would have served as a good basis for today's plot. The concerns that Priya raised at the Jhaakars are legitimate ones that a lot of families face and it would have been nice to see father and daughter having that conversation. I did however like Chinu & Mr. Pradhan having a heated discussion prior to the arrival of the Jhaakars. It made up slightly for the lack of the bridge scene.
Mr. Pradhan's assertion that he had managed to find a way to make it work did not feel right! I felt like the writers/creative team added that to give them the ability to throw a lavish wedding that will garner the TRPs. It was a nice touch though to have the screenplay show Mr. Pradhan honestly accepting to Devyani what bothered him...such as having the wedding in Rohatak...and indicating he had made peace with it!
Overall: Good episode.
