Bollywood is very, very sycophantic...being a Khan / Kapoor / Bacchan / Chopra does matter a lot! As someone mentioned, a rank outsider would hardly get a second chance if he / she doesn't prove themselves with their first / second film, but people like Abhishek are still around only because of their family name! He is talented but not enough to be given so many chances and still not make it on his own! Same goes for Uday Chopra! Kareena and Karishma have lived seperately from the Kapoor family, so I think that whatever they have achieved has been more or less on their own. Atleast, I am pretty sure about Karishma! She did some very third rate films in the beginning of her career just to survive...if her family was really backing her, then even she would have got her Father to produce a film for her like Sonam Kapoor did and not have done those cheap David Dhawan comedies! Kareena I believe has benefitted somewhat from having Karishma as an elder sister, but hardly from being a Kapoor girl!
Also, it is unfair to say that actresses like Aishwarya and Priyanka got help from their Ms. World status! But then, they acheived those titles on their own...their family did not win it for them! Also, I don't see how Prakash Padukone could have landed a film deal for Deepika...the guy was a badminton player, not a film producer!
On the other hand, it is the audience which makes or breaks you!
If being the son/daughter of a superstar was enough, then Kumar Gaurav would have been the SRK of his time, by virtue of being Rajendra Kumar's son! (who was the biggest superstar of his time!) But as things stand now, most people don't even know of his existence!
There are probably many more examples of star sons and daughters who did not benefit by virtue of their family names than the ones who did, despite all the push and shove by their parents!
