Salman's 'Being Human' campaign inspired by Somy A

Ever wondered where Salman Khan's "Being Human" campaign gets its inspiration from? It is from none other than his ex-girlfriend Somy Ali.

Somy Ali after retiring from Bollywood has kept herself busy with social political issues and events. She is currently working as a human rights advocate.

Somy Ali started the No More Tears organization in 2006 to help women suffering from domestic voilence. She funds her organization in part by giving 10 percent of the revenue from her clothing company, So-Me Designs. So-Me designs is a clothing line based on taking a stand against all intolerance through the aid of fashion. So-Me clothing is available in boutiques all over the U.S. and sells through their website as well. Hollywood celebs have been spotted sporting her designs.

Somy Ali started her 'Human Being' campaign in March 2007. A couple of months from that, Salman Khan decided to launch his "Being Human" campaign.

There were reports that Somy Ali was upset with Salman as it looked like he copied her by just interchanging the words from Human Being to Being Human.

In a recent interview to Stardust magazine [Jun 2010], this is what Somy had to say:

"It is inappropriate for me to say anything negative about anybody, no matter who he or she is, that is willing to help those that are unfortunate. As long as people are being helped and lives are saved, I am content.
From a logistic standpoint, So-Me Designs (the sister company of NMT) made our first t-shirt, Human Being, before the Being Human project was even conceived. Being Human is not a part of our company or brand. On the other hand, it is a great honor that our t-shirts are not only inspiring people to wear them, but also others to emulate and copy them".
