Jal for MTV Asia Awards
MTV has some sort of awards going on every few months. The latest one on the block is MTV Asia Awards or MAAs 2006. The fifth annual MAAs will be held in Bangkok in the near future. Talking about the awards, MTV Network Asia Pacific's President, Nigel Robbins commented, "We are back again in Bangkok with Asia's premier event. The MTV Asia Awards is a ceremony that pays tribute to top musical talents across the Asia Pacific region. Thailand, with its rich cultural heritage, is the perfect place to host this event. We promise to deliver a top drawer show that will honour Asian and International artistes and provide to our viewers across Asia and the world an unforgettable event." The nominations list is out. Pakistani pop trio Jal made it to category of Favourite Artist India and are competing against Asha Bhosle, Indian Idol Abhijeet Sawant, Rabi Shergill and Sonu Nigam. Favourite Male Artist nominations went to Eminem, James Blunt, Kanye West, Ricky Martin and Robbie Williams. For the same in female category, Ashlee Simpson, Kelly Clarkson, Lindsay Lohan, Madonna and Mariah Carey – each walked with one nomination. Backstreet Boys finally got recognized for their comeback in Favourite Pop Category alongside Gorillaz, Simple Plan, Black Eyed Peas and Westlife. Grammy winners Greenday got two respectable nominations for Favourite Rock Act and Favourite Video ('Wake me up when September ends'). Other Rock Act category contenders include Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand, My Chemical Romance and Oasis. Best of luck to Jal as well as other nominees. 😊
