Well even if it is a tradition, it must be a seriosuly ancient one because I have never heard of it. And the Kashyap family is portrayed as relatively modern so I highly doubt they would pay heed to such traditions.
I guess Rano and Badi Maa just stayed back for the sake of welcoming Suhana :S

Hey,

Ok let me share my own personal experience, as I come from a Hindu Bengali family. Couple of years ago I went back to India to get married, and noticed a similar thing. My mum was present at the wedding premises, but she was not allowed to watch the main wedding ceremony("pheras.."). I think even my dad couldnt watch us. However nothing of that sort was expected from the groom's side (ie. my in laws).
Now my mum watches our wedding dvd every week to make up for it!😆

From what I have heard, this is traditional and has been passed on over the years, however, its somewhat optional these days. I dont think every Bengali wedding carries every rule according to the books these days.

Again, I am not sure what the story was with the absence of Badi Maa, it could be that she was assisting with the welcoming of Suhana as someone mentioned.

Actually I forgot to mention the reason behind mothers not being allowed to see the wedding. But Anu has already posted it in the above post - about "nazar lagti" (evil eye)...though I dont really believe in such beliefs...whatever keeps them happy😊

The boy's mother not seeing the wedding could also be true - probably didnt apply strictly in our case because my husband isnt Indian(decided to be flexible)

I agree with u Anwesha di..Its strictly followed till now in WB..Have attended around 40-50 weddings till now(thnx to my lonnng list of relatives and friends...and obviously...food😆😆)I have seen this trend ....even my grandma didnt attend my maternal uncle's wedding...😊....In OBS..The only reason why Boroma and Rano didnt attend Ishaan's wedding was because of..the red part highlighted above...coz OBS is set in west bengal....But have no idea why rano didnt attend Ishaan's wedding in SGP???I had read that Shruti was sick....so maybe to adjust that they didnt show her going to Ishaan's wedding😉
