Shyamal Mitra

Shyamal Mitra was one of the most popular singers of Bengal during the '50s to early '70s. He had a unique voice and was one of the most favourite romantic singers. Nearly all the composers of that time composed some unforgettable songs for him. He didn't sing many songs for Salil, but the ones he did are all classics. His interpretation and delivery of songs such as 'Jodi kichhu amaarey sudhaao' and 'Dur noi besi dur oi' is sheer magic. Salil also composed songs for the All India Radio in Calcutta and one of those 'Choley je jaay din', a wonderful composition with rather complex chord progression later became quite a hit (sung by Kishore) in the film 'Annadata'. Another AIR song 'Ogo Surangana' which Salil later used partly to compose the title music of 'Anand' was also a brilliant composition, which unfortunately never became commercially available. There's a Kannada version of this song in the film 'Samsayaphala' sung by Sabita Chowdhury (yes! she sings in Kannada) and P.B.Srinivas which probrbly has a record or cassette.

Hnd = Hindi; Mal = Malayalam; Tam = Tamil; Tel = Telegu; Kan = Kannada; Bng = Bengali; Oth = Other

The title music of that award winning Hindi film 'Anand'

Emon Din Ashte Pare

Ami Tomar Pashe Jemon

O Shimul Bon Dao Rangiye Mon

Jadi Dako Epar Hote

Sediner Sona Jhara Sandhya

Tumi Aar Ami Sudhu

Neel Akasher Oi Kole

Kaar Manjira Baje

O Bhramara Tui Jashne Sekhane

Bhalobasho Tumi Sunechhi Anekbaar

Lal Cheli Parane Taar

Naam Rekhechhi Bonolata

Bhiru Bhiru Chokhe Cheye Chole Gele

Hangsa Pakha Diye

Aha Oi Anka Banka Je Path

Ja Jare Ja Ja Pakhi

Jadi Kichhu Amare Sudhao

Jaak Ja Gechhe Ta Jaak

Keno Tumi Phire Ele

Ei Sundar Prithibi Chhere

Dharo Kono Ek Swet Patharer Prasade

Ei Sahare Ei Bandare

Tomari Pathapane Chahi

I am a 100% pure bengali, and I wish that it was my pseudo name, but unfortunately it isn't. I don't know why my parents became my biggest enemies while naming me. Or else names a pure bengali boy with a pure south indian name.
