Deepika Padukone is in for a revolutionary round of b'day wishes! A wee belated one, at that. And what's better, it's for her… reel life character of Kalpana Dutta, an active member of a clutch of bravehearts who led the Chittagong Uprising of the 1930s, captured in cinematic excellence by moviemaker Ashutosh Gowariker in 'Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey'.
Kalpana Dutta, born on 27 July 1913, was merely 17 years old when she forged patriotic bonds with a team of rebels to form the secret Republican Army, displaying defiant bravery against British colonial rule in the Chittagong Uprising of the 1930s.
Incidentally, Dutta also happens to be the mother in law of famed author Manini Chatterjee, who penned 'Do And Die: The Chittagong Years 1930 to 34,'; the book upon which Gowariker's 'KHJJS' draws heavily from.
Handpicked by Gowariker for 'KHJJS', slated for a December 3, 2010 release, Padukone didn't hesitate to gush in a tabloid quote stating, "I couldn't believe that Ashutosh Gowariker had finally selected me for the role of Kalpana Dutta in 'KHJJS'. It was one of my life's biggest ambitions to work with him. And now that I have, I cannot describe just how wonderful a director he is! Simply awesome… and this is one film shooting experience that I will never forget in my life!"
