In fact, if you can make it big in the industry by being nasal, this is nothing. TakeVishal Dadlani, for example, he has done tremendously well in the industry with his singing. I mean, it's not bad singing(although it's not very, very good) I hope you get my point here

I feel his lisp is a huge distraction.

And Vishal Dadlani is an awesome singer 😕

Here is the Bol Naa Halke Halke performance. Audio is very bad though.

^Thanks Sahil! :-) I used the date from your video to find this one:

I think in this song, Naushad's lisp prevents him from correctly saying words like "sau", "lafz", 'qaidain'. He pronounces 'ghoonghat' as 'ghoooonghatttt'. And 'aaGHosh' as 'aaGosh'. Things like that bother me. And these have more to do with his lisp than just regional language.

I also think he enunciates the wrong words in the line sometimes. Too much emphasis on the wrong word also strikes out in a performance.

I should go now before all of Naushad's fans strike. 😆

guys i don't think any singer is perfect on there, they all have some sort of problems. but these problems over come with practice (reyaaz).
Naushad is a fantastic singer n has inherited that from his ancestors.
I would like to see him in top 5.

A lisp is a speech impediment. Lisps can be anything from mild to extreme. Some people get over lips and some people find it challenging. I don't have a problem with Naushad's lisp. I personally cannot hold someone's natural impediment against them. It is also a mild case. However, I think if he wants to become a singer; he should seriously consider training to eliminate his lisp. Singing is an art where pronunciation and sound of words matter to create the impact, the true feel can be lost when words are not said right - so it is an area that must be worked on.

What bothers me most is mispronunciation. If it was a genuine accent that caused mispronunciation, it is acceptable. However, with his accent he should be able to pronounce words correctly. Moreover, not all his mispronunciations are lisp related - so he has no excuse in this aspect and must seriously work on it.

Speaking of lisps, I remember Miley Cyrus had a terrible lisp in her younger days. Used to drive me nuts, but for some reason I started growing fond of her silly lisp. Retainers and braces also tend to give lisps. Then there is also the gay lisp, which is a handy dar tool. Although Adam Lambert never had one (nor does Ricky Martin, Clay Aiken, or Lance Bass). But OMG Perez Hilton has such a heavy one.

I want to share one video. Its really worth watching. If you watch this video around 2:40 Asha ji makes a point regarding Sukhwinder's singing. My question is whether it somewhat relates to Naushad's issue being discussed here?

Then again around 8:12 she lays stress on usage of Hindi and Urdu words.

BTW I had watched this video before but today only I noticed that the female singer there is Manisha.

This particular video also shows how differently the new age composers think. Sorry guys, you all have to bear tantrums of Himesh for few mins. 😊

Kumar Sanu is a nasal singer ... but he does not lack clarity in his words. Vishal Dadlani comes from the rock genre .... the way he sings is also associated with that background, I think.

What?😕Where did that come from?

If you notice,he lisps every time he says 'sur','jaise' etc, but look where he is now.
Coming to his pronounciation, I think it's because of his rural Rajasthani backdrop, where tthey tend to pronounce stuff like that

Simply because none is correcting him and its highly distracting to me. Not just that, his diction is bad.He says 'Mosam' for 'Mausam", 'MarGee' for 'MarZi' and when words are not pronounced well, the essence of the song is lost. I do not like his singing. Lisping can be corrected but someone should help him with that. I am sure Javed Akhtar would have pointed that out.

SAS It is not u alone....I am with you from the first time I heard him sing...But his lisp is not as strong as Debojit of C-09 or Emon Chatterjee or Hussain the host...Lisp of any size big or small is annoying to my ears comibing with bad diction makes it bad...My biggest problem with Naushad besides his lisp is his diction and really bad lower notes...Off sur....
It might be OK for some but it is unacceptable to me and Naushad should work on it...Go to speech therapist and it can be fixed...😳
