Back to work after a fabulous honeymoon, Bollywood heart throb Fardeen Khan is full of new energy. In conversation with TWF correspondent Vickey Lalwani.
Q: Disappointed with your last two releases- 'Shaadi No 1' and 'Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena'?
A: Everyone put his/her best foot forward in 'Shaadi No. 1'. No one has control over how a film finally performs at the turnstiles. The audience has become very unpredictable. There is no success formula, these days. As for 'Ek Khiladi...', I was very happy with the film; more than 400 prints were released.
Q: Your love-making scene with Koena Mitra was quite steamy?
A: I thought we filmed the love scene very aesthetically. There was no nudity, nothing crude and obscene.
Q: How did Natasha take to it?
A: She's a mature girl and has been a part of showbiz through her mom's (Mumtaz) career. She knows the hazards of this business.
Q: Do you feel any different after being married?
A: Life hasn't really changed after marriage. I think that's because Natasha (Madhvani) and I knew each other since a long time. We give each other all the space. We are not rigid with each other. We don't have dos and don'ts in our marital relationship.
Q: What if you get late sometimes? Does Natasha get upset?
A: No. As I told you, Natasha is a mature girl.
Q: Does she miss you when you go to work?
A: Obviously. Sundays are fully devoted to Natasha. We go out for lunch and maybe even dinner. If I have a long weekend, we would fly off somewhere and do something.
Q: How was your honeymoon?
A: Fabulous. We indulged in lots of adventure. First, Natasha and I went for 22 days to New Zealand. I came back for five days to shoot. And then, we went to Africa for two-and-half weeks. Summing it up, our honeymoon lasted for more than five weeks.
Q: What do you feel after getting married?
A: I feel that I am sharing my life with someone I wanted to share with. Marriage is a beautiful relationship.
Q: Finally, how is Mrs. Fardeen Khan settling in the new house and the new city?
A: Mrs Fardeen Khan. That sounds nice! (laughs). She is getting familiar with the surroundings and the people. She is quite adventurous in terms of shopping. She goes out on her own, nowadays.
Q: You are playing blind in your forthcoming "Pyare Mohan". Was it tough?
A: It's a challenging role and I haven't used any dark glasses, and the role comes with a certain responsibility and sensitivity. There have been funny moments, though. At times, there is a distraction and I forget that I am blind. I did a bit of homework, though. I observed a few characters who had played the role of a blind man, especially the English guy who acted in Contact.
Q: What is Pyare Mohan all about?
A: There have been stories with handicapped people in India, but more often than not, the lighter side has not been tapped. We have kept the emotions intact, but treated the characters and their problem in a humorous way. Amrita Rao (Pia) falls in love with Vivek who is deaf, while Esha (Preeti) romances me. Amrita and Esha play wannabe pop-stars. They have come to Mumbai to make a name for themselves. Vivek and I are not born with the handicap, but an unfortunate accident in our profession of stunts leads to it.
Q: What's more in your kitty?
A: I am doing Tips' film with Anil Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan. Then I am soon starting shooting on MEghna Gulzar's film Honeymoon, with Esha Deol.
Q: Is your Dad remaking Qurbani?
A: Yes. I will be playing Dad's role and we have signed Saif to play Vinod Khanna's role.
Q: And who will play the sexy Zeenat Aman?
A: Well, we haven't finalised that. We'll be announcing the project in a big way, very soon.
